Retailers Told to Board Up
Before Election Day
Beverly Hills PD issues dire warning to retailers to board up their windows
ahead of possible Election Day protests
Rodeo Drive will shut down in fear of rioting and
chaos
Beverly
Hills business owners have been
told to board up their windows
by the local police department, as officials expect rioting throughout Los
Angeles following the presidential election results, according to a text message
obtained by DailyMail.com.
The BHPD sent out a
mass text to all business owners in the area
on Friday 'strongly' suggesting that all buildings on Rodeo Drive
board up store windows by 11pm
on Monday, November 2.
The department also informed owners that the
famed street would be
completely shut down by 12am that Monday, with no cars or pedestrians allowed to
pass through. The
notice also stated that no businesses should be operating 'out of safety for the
community and business patrons' during the road closure.
The text comes in anticipation of mass
protests and possible rioting
throughout the city on Tuesday, November 3, in the wake of the presidential
election results.
Officials fear that peaceful demonstrations on either side could turn violent
after the country learns whether President Donald Trump will secure another four
years in office or if former VP Joe Biden will take hold of the White House.

Big Cities Trying to Avoid Repeat of Summer
Unrest
Retailers, business owners bracing for potential unrest, officials say
'Fear of civil unrest and looting looms large' over some communities, one

Business
owners in some parts of the nation are
concerned and uncertain
whether they should open on or around Election Day
amid fears of protests or
destruction, local groups and police officials said.
Authorities in Chicago,
Miami, Portland, Washington, D.C. and other cities
are working with local business people to address potential ways businesses
could be impacted before, during and after the election, law enforcement
officials and representatives of business groups told FOX Business.
The looting and
property damage that happened during or following some racial justice protests
"had a devastating impact. And that's really what needs to be prevented," he
said.

Military, police in Washington state prepare for possible civil unrest after
election
Federal, state and local officials have participated in "tabletop" exercises
outlining possible scenarios for post-election violence and mayhem. At least
300 National Guard soldiers, recently deployed overseas, are being
trained to handle civil unrest. They will be placed on alert with hundreds
of other Guard members who have already been trained for handling such
disturbances. Police leaders in Seattle, which has hosted some of the country's
largest racial justice protests, have canceled time off for officers.

D&D Daily Crime Analysis: Weekend Shootings &
Deaths Remain High
Nearly 3,000 Shootings & 700 Deaths Recorded Since July 4th Weekend
158 shootings, 43 killed in
20 Major U.S. Cities from Oct. 23-25
The D&D Daily
continued to
analyze violent crime in
20 major cities,
including those in
the DOJ's 'Operation Legend,'
where they've
made over 1,057+ arrests since its onset in July.
The study showed
158 shootings and 43 killings from Friday through Sunday, with an average of
52.7 shootings and 14.3 killings per day.
Shooting deaths remain high since last week, when we saw the most since the July
4th Holiday weekend.
As the data shows, July Fourth weekend remains a
high point for deadly violence this summer, with 233 shootings and
70 killings in over 30 cities (big and small throughout the U.S.) over just
two days during that holiday weekend, averaging 116.5 shootings per day and 35
killings per day.

D&D Daily Survey: Election Violence & Protests
How are you preparing?
Given
the current elective divisiveness coupled with the nation reeling from protests,
rioting, and looting since George Floyd's death in Minneapolis and the COVID-19
lockdowns, restrictions and social isolation, law enforcement and intelligence
agencies across the nation are preparing for protests and violence throughout
the election process. Especially given the long, drawn out mail-in ballots that
will reportedly take up to a week or more to determine the winner.
That being said, we wanted to provide the community with a public
survey/benchmark that can be shared and hopefully provide value with your
individual review and preparation process.

Nation Reaching 'Dangerous Tipping Point'
US hits highest 7-day average of coronavirus cases since the pandemic began
The latest surge of Covid-19 infections has pushed the seven-day average of new
daily cases to heights
not seen since the pandemic began.
The seven-day average
of new cases hit 68,767 on Sunday,
topping the previous
peak of 67,293 reported
on July 22. The two highest single days of new cases were Friday and Saturday,
with more than 83,000 new cases added each day.
Health experts say the resurgence of cases that they had warned would strike in
the fall and winter is here, and that it could be the worst the US has seen so
far. Surging numbers in the US -- where there have been a total of more than 8.6
million infections and 225,230 people have died -- show the nation is at a
"dangerous tipping point,"
former US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb told CBS News
on Sunday.
"We're entering what's going to be the
steep slope
of the curve, of the epidemic curve," Gottlieb told CBS's Margaret Brennan on
"Face the Nation."
Many epidemiologists and public health
officials anticipated a surge in new coronavirus infections this fall as cooler
temperatures pushed Americans indoors and behaviors changed with the seasons.
But this increase in new cases
is coming sooner than some expected.

New U.S. Cases Stay Above 60,000
The number of those hospitalized with Covid-19 in the U.S. was 41,753 on Sunday.
That was down from 41,882 a day earlier but the fifth day in a row the figure
surpassed 40,000, which it hadn't previously done since Aug. 21.
The 340 U.S. deaths reported Sunday represented the lowest one-day tally since
Oct. 12, when 317 people were reported dead. Overall, the U.S. has reported
225,230 deaths from the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins data.

2nd Shutdown Could Be 'Nail in the Coffin' for
Businesses
Business owners worried about possibility of more shutdowns as cases rise
With
a new record of daily coronavirus cases in Ohio set Saturday at 2,800,
many business owners are
concerned about what's
to come. Just last week, Governor Mike DeWine said he is not ruling out the
possibility of more closures or shutdowns.
Saturday was a great day for business for many bars and restaurants as the
Buckeyes conquered Nebraska. But, for many business owners, a boom in business
is hard to come by these days.
"Between this and our other place, Antiques on High, we're
between 30 and 50 percent
down," said Collin
Castor, the Co-Founder of Seventh Son Brewing. That's from the shutdown this
spring and continued regulations.
Castor says another
wave of closures could prove devastating.
"I
think it would be kind of the nail in the coffin for a lot of us,
unfortunately." Across town in Clintonville, a beloved restaurant's
sales are down between 60 and
70-percent.

COVID's Impact on Seasonal Hiring
The Big Shift in Retail Jobs
"The pandemic has thrown typical holiday hiring patterns off"
In-store hiring is down as more roles have shifted to logistics, e-commerce and
novel positions that have emerged as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Perhaps more surprising,
job-seeker interest is also
down, even though unemployment is higher
than it's been in years.
It's still uncertain exactly how the
COVID-19 pandemic will reshape
holiday hiring, but it
seems that the public health crisis is exacerbating a trend that was already in
motion: Online shopping is becoming a larger share of the retail experience,
causing seasonal hiring to move from stores to warehouses and call centers.
Retailers, particularly those with a strong online shopping infrastructure, are
anticipating high demand but are
struggling to figure out how
many hires will be made to accommodate holiday sales."
Job postings on Indeed were
down 11 percent in late
September, when seasonal hiring should be picking up.
There's
also been a shift this year
from temporary seasonal jobs to regular year-round full- or part-time positions,
falling from 2019 when 54 percent of seasonal jobs were temporary to
37 percent this year.
Boosting permanent headcount
as they recover from the initial coronavirus shock," Konkel said.

McDonald's seeks dismissal of racial discrimination lawsuit by former

McDonald's is asking a judge to dismiss a racial

by 52 former franchisees
McDonald's
on Friday asked a judge to dismiss the racial discrimination lawsuit filed by
former franchisees,
arguing that it wants every operator in its system to thrive.
The company also said that the complaint from
52 Black plaintiffs
relies on "vague and conclusory allegations" and fails to provide viable claims
of intentional race discrimination, breach of contract and fraud.
McDonald's also said that the statutes of limitations for such claims has
expired, based on when the operators exited the franchise. The statute of
limitations in Illinois, where the suit was filed, for discrimination during a
contract is only four years.
In September, the former franchisees
alleged that the fast-food
giant denied them the same opportunities as White operators and steered Black
franchisees to low-income neighborhoods,
where they had higher security and insurance expenses and lower sales.
The plaintiffs say
their losses are $4 million to $5 million per location
on average, after subtracting restaurants' costs from missed revenue over the
years active.

One Pandemic Success Story
Home Depot Won a Lot of Customers During the Pandemic
-
The Trick Is Keeping Them
'It was like Black Friday every day'
Home
Depot Inc. reacted to the rapid spread of Covid-19 in the U.S. by canceling
annual sales events and pulling many marked-down goods off the shelves to keep
crowds away from stores. But rather than a drop in traffic, amid lockdowns and
social distancing,
customers began flocking to its physical and online stores,
spending stay-at-home savings and government stimulus checks on home-improvement
projects.
In August, the Atlanta-based company posted its strongest quarterly sales growth
in nearly 20 years, with May-to-July revenue up 23% to $38.1 billion, compared
with the same period in 2019.
The digital technology
needed to meet that rush in demand fell to Matt Carey, Home Depot's chief
information officer. Mr. Carey and his team quickly spun out mobile apps for
curbside-pickup services and real-time inventory-tracking software, among other
tools. "It was like
Black Friday every day,"
he says about the unexpected run.

COVID-19 Driving Malware
Infections
Infected IoT device numbers grow 100% in a year
Internet of Things (IoT) devices are now responsible for
32.72% of all infections
observed in mobile networks, up from 16.17% in 2019,
according to a new Nokia Threat Intelligence Report 2020. This trend lines up
with the growing number of IoT devices that are now connected to mobile
networks, says Nokia's Threat Intelligence Lab.
With the widespread proliferation of IoT devices, it is to be expected that the
number of IoT infections will grow dramatically.
Covid-19
caused a surge in mobile malware infections
In 2020, the average monthly infection rate in mobile networks was 0.23%. In
February and March, however, the monthly mobile infection rate increased by
almost 30% over the previous months, largely due to the significant escalation
of cyber security incidents related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Info-stealers and spyware are on the rise
There is a strong trend toward info-stealers and mobile spyware, which make up
35.76% of all Android infections.
Trojans are now the malware of choice
The share of malware detected as Trojans jumped to 74% from just 34% in 2019,
largely because the exceptional circumstance of this year have made phishing
campaigns the best way to delivery malware directly to users. The relative share
of worms and viruses has decreased in 2020.
Dirk Schrader, Global Vice President at New Net Technologies (NNT), says, "It's
no surprise that IoT devices are the crown jewels for cybercriminals.
Businesses around the world
are transforming their processes, their production lines using digitalized
assets. Having control
over these assets means that a cybercriminal's hand is - literally - at the main
switch of a digitally transformed company.
The danger of being shut down
almost completely is
the reason why companies are more likely to pay even higher ransoms."

Retail, Hospitality and Travel Hit by 64 Billion Credential Stuffing Attacks
Over 60% of credential stuffing attacks detected over the past two years have
been targeted at retail, travel and hospitality businesses, according to
security vendor
Akamai's
latest report, Loyalty for Sale.
During the period July 1 2018 to June 30 2020, it detected over 100 billion
credential stuffing attempts. Almost 64 billion of these were aimed at cracking
open user accounts in the retail, travel and hospitality sectors. Further,
retail accounted for the vast majority (90%+) of the attacks aimed at these
verticals.
Such attacks remain popular given the continuous surge of breached log-ins onto
underground sites and the potentially rich pickings to be found inside cracked
accounts.
"Criminals are not picky - anything that can be accessed can be used in some
way," said Steve Ragan, Akamai security researcher and report author. "This is
why credential stuffing has become so popular over the past few years. These
days, retail and loyalty profiles contain a smorgasbord of personal
information, and in some cases financial information too. All of this data
can be collected, sold and traded, or even compiled for extensive profiles that
can later be used for crimes such as identity theft."

Ransomware trends in Q3: a new attack every day
Digital Shadows released its quarterly research report focusing on the latest
trends in ransomware. Unfortunately, for vulnerable organizations everywhere,
Digital Shadows Photon Research team found that
ransomware as a market and
community on the dark web has expanded since Q2.
New variants of ransomware, as well as data leak sites (which
host and/or advertise stolen
information), are
popping up every week, including some operated by the notorious Conti ransomware
operators. These are the same folks who are suspected to be responsible for Ryuk
malware.
A disturbing dimension of this trend is the
rise of these data leak sites.
While a few major players still dominate market share, the explosion in
alternatives - including the Conti-affiliated Netwalker blog, which quickly
captured 17% of the market, making it the second most popular blog - indicates
an active community growing in a lucrative business.
In the second quarter of 2020, Maze, DoppelPaymer, and Sodinokibi seemed to rule
the ransomware scene with
reports of ransomware attacks
every day.

Controlling How Tech Giants Use Data
Privacy ballot measure in California could have ripple effect across the U.S.
California
enacted
the country's toughest privacy law in 2018, but the Golden State isn't done
considering new privacy regulations. Voters are now
weighing a proposition that supporters say will give you more control
over how tech giants use your data.
Like 2018's California Consumer Privacy Act, the new ballot proposition could
prompt companies to change privacy policies across the board. Called the
California Privacy Rights Act, the proposition could also revive efforts to
pass similar bills in statehouses across the country.
At issue is whether the privacy protections will be effective, and
whether the potential costs of running a new state agency, which the initiative
calls for, are worth it at a time when the state's budget is threatened by the
coronavirus pandemic. Voters will also sort through the reasons why some
privacy advocates don't love the law.

2020: The Year Everyone Became an IT Employee
The pandemic has rendered IT roles more demanding and more important than
ever before. And every employee has essentially become an extension of the IT
team.
Consider an IT admin that previously supported one office with 50 employees.
Today, that admin is supporting the same 50 employees spread across as many
locations, using different networks and a wide variety of (mostly unsecured)
devices. Troubleshooting is infinitely more challenging in this paradigm and,
while the volume of IT work has exploded, the size of most teams remains
unchanged.

34K COVID-Related Fraud Incidents
Online shoppers have lost millions to fraud in 2020
Since the beginning of the year, Americans have made
91,808 COVID-19-related
reports to the Federal Trade Commission-34,000 of which were related to online
shopping alone. Covid-related
fraud has already robbed a cumulative $16 million from unsuspecting Americans,
says the FTC's most up-to-date report. That's because so many people are
shopping online at once and distracted from their normal routines, says cyber
security expert and CyberScout founder Adam Levin.
Here are six essential tools
for anyone who shops online.
1.
Anti-Malware Software
You can prevent e-skimming with powerful anti-malware software like MalwareBytes
Premium Multi-Device. This program runs 24/7, scanning your system for anything
suspicious and stonewalling any potential malware invasions in real time.
2. A Password Manager
Logging into each account for each of your favorite online stores requires one
key talent: remembering your password. Sorry to bust your bubble, but Levin says
it's a bad idea and a big risk to use the same or similar passwords everywhere.
3. Strong Security Software
Strong security software is a must for preventing viruses, ransomware and
malware attacks while you're jumping from one online store to another, snapping
up sales. You might not even know you're on a malicious website, but they can
secretly steal your personal information or even overtake your entire device,
according to software leader Norton.
4. A VPN - 5. A Pop Up Ad
Blocker - 6. A Mobile Security App

Using the Web to Reinvent Black Friday During the
Pandemic
How retailers are reinventing the Black Friday experience during COVID-19
Retailers are doing their best to safely draw in customers during the 2020
holiday shopping season by expanding the length of time to cash in on
online doorbuster deals
and offering curbside pickup and delivery.
Local businesses also are offering
innovative shopping
promotions, including pre-booked shopping times and free gifts.
If you were waiting until November to start your holiday shopping locally or at
big-box retailers, experts say you're already behind. That's right, the holiday
shopping creep has now inched back into October. In fact, it got started before
Halloween.
Since we're still in the midst of the pandemic, national and local retailers
have adopted
alternative strategies
for holiday shopping
during the coronavirus
to keep both shoppers and employees safe.

Education is a broad term usually defined by an individual as a singular focus
with an end result that oftentimes stagnates the brain and limits horizons.
Reaching milestones is incredibly important, but keeping your curiosity and
wonderment is the key to reaching beyond. No singular degree or certification
will bring you the success - it merely opens the door to more learning and the
realization that if you don't know something, you go find someone who does and
learn it from them.
