Downing & Downing New York
City Dinner January 14,
2013
On Jan 14th in NYC over 100 Loss Prevention leaders
gathered to
honor Joe LaRocca for his tremendous achievements while
he was the
Vice President of Loss Prevention for the National
Retail
Federation. As the first true retail
Loss Prevention executive ever
to occupy that position, he pioneered game changing
initiatives that
helped
evolve the industry on a national level. His
subject matter
expertise and true desire to make a
difference
played an instrumental role in creating and
developing the
numerous and successful Organized Retail
Crime
initiatives throughout the entire United
States.
Shot right before the
evenings event and airing this spring on LPNN's season
2, this
session reviews and
looks at Harvard Business School Professor,
Tatiana Sandino's study "Can Wages Buy Honesty? The
Relationship
Between Realtive Wages and Employee Theft". In this
session we
explored how her formula can be applied
in any retail model and used
to determine how wage increases can indeed impact theft
activity in
a store.
And while it isn't the absolute answer to theft
it is in
fact a variable that also impacts turnover, store moral,
productivity, and the overall social norms in any given
store.
