FBI, DHS Issue Joint Warning About March 4
Authorities on high alert as new QAnon date approaches Thursday
Security and defense officials are testifying Wednesday before two Senate
committees about their preparedness for the Jan. 6 mob attack on Capitol Hill in
the face of concerns that extremists could gather there again on Thursday.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security
issued a joint intelligence bulletin highlighting the belief among some members
of the conspiracy-theory group QAnon that former President Donald Trump “will be
inaugurated on 4 March or will return to power on 20 May with the help of the
U.S. military.” The memo, released Tuesday and reviewed by The Wall Street
Journal, says domestic violent extremists remain inspired by “election fraud and
other conspiracy theories associated with the presidential transition.”
Citing FBI reporting, the memo says extremists discussed plans as of late
February to take control of the Capitol and remove Democratic lawmakers “on or
about 4 March” and “discussed aspirational plans to persuade thousands to travel
to Washington, DC to participate.” March 4 was the nation’s Inauguration Day
until 1937.
The agencies recommend that federal, state and local counterterrorism and police
officials “remain vigilant in light of the persistent threat posed by [domestic
violent extremists] and their unpredictable target selection.”
Roughly 5,200 National Guard members are helping provide security in
Washington as of this week, a National Guard spokesman said Monday, adding they
are expected to depart later this month. Their numbers have gradually
been reduced since authorities deployed roughly 26,000 Guard members to protect
President Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

Police uncover 'possible plot' by militia to breach Capitol Thursday
Capitol Police say they have uncovered intelligence of a "possible plot" by a
militia group to breach the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, nearly two months after a
mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the iconic building to
try to stop Congress from certifying now-President Joe Biden's victory.

D.C. Guard chief says ‘unusual’ restrictions slowed deployment of backup during
Jan. 6 Capitol riot
The commanding general of the D.C. National Guard told lawmakers Wednesday how
restrictions the Pentagon placed on him in the run-up to Capitol riot prevented
him from more quickly sending forces to help quell the violence.
Maj. Gen. William J. Walker said he didn’t receive approval to change the
D.C. Guard’s mission and send his forces to the Capitol on Jan. 6 until
three hours and 19 minutes after he first received
an emotional call from the Capitol Police chief requesting urgent backup.
Walker described the Pentagon’s restrictions as “unusual,” noting that he didn’t
have such limitations last June when the D.C. Guard was tasked with responding
to local racial justice protests. Walker told lawmakers that had he not been
restricted, he could have sent 155 soldiers to the Capitol hours earlier.

Chicago Man Charged in Federal Court With Inciting Rioting Last Summer
A
Chicago man has been charged in federal court with inciting rioting involving
multiple incidents of property damage and looting in the city last summer.
JAMES MASSEY, 22, is charged with one count of using a facility of
interstate commerce to incite a riot. According to a criminal complaint filed in
U.S. District Court in Chicago, Massey on Aug. 9, 2020, posted multiple
videos and messages on Facebook calling for people to travel to downtown Chicago
to engage in property damage and looting, the complaint states. In one of
the messages, a Facebook user allegedly stated to others in the group, “We like
13 cars deep.”
In the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2020, Massey and numerous individuals
damaged and looted multiple businesses throughout Chicago - including a
marijuana dispensary, a retail store, a convenience store, and a cell phone

Texas, Mississippi & Louisiana Join States
Lifting COVID Restrictions
States are lifting pandemic restrictions before health experts think is wise
By now, many of the basic facts about how Covid-19 spreads are clear. People
tend to become infected by inhaling droplets that come from the mouths and noses
of others. Crowded indoor spaces — where infected droplets can linger in the air
— are the most dangerous places. They are particularly dangerous when people are
not wearing masks.
Yet consider some of the new policies that state governments have put in
place this week:
●
Texas and
Mississippi both announced they would lift their mask mandates (following
Iowa and
Montana, which did so last month) and allow businesses to operate at full
capacity.
●
Massachusetts removed capacity limits on restaurants.
●
South Carolina will allow gatherings of more than 250 people.

Texas Opens Up at 100%, Leaving Safety to Businesses &
Individuals
Texas Governor Lifts Covid-19 Mask Mandate, Business Restrictions
Texas
businesses will be able to operate at full capacity and state residents will no
longer be required to wear masks to visit them, Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday.
Texans will be in charge of managing their own individual safety, Abbott
said, using practices learned during the pandemic.
The easing of restrictions will take effect on March 10. Starting next
Wednesday, the mask mandate will be lifted and all businesses will be allowed
to open at 100% of capacity for the first time in nearly a year. While
Abbott noted that businesses can still choose to limit occupancy or require
masks, the change opens the door to potentially massive social gatherings,
including at sports stadiums, concert halls and other large venues.
After about a monthlong shutdown last year, Texas allowed businesses to reopen
to varying degrees beginning in May. Mr. Abbott instituted a mask mandate in
July, as Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations increased. More than 44,000 Texans
have died of Covid-19. The state has logged nearly 33,000 new cases in the past
week, an increase from mid-February, but a significant decrease from January.
Mr. Abbott’s move, affecting some 29 million residents of the second-largest
state, comes after some smaller states, such as Iowa, Montana and North
Dakota, have removed mask mandates. On Tuesday, Mississippi Gov. Tate
Reeves also said he would be dropping the state’s mask mandate and all
business-capacity restrictions. Mr. Reeves said hospitalizations from the virus
have decreased.

D-FW stores and businesses scramble after repeal of COVID-19 restrictions
Major retailers are deciding how to respond to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s
announcement that he is lifting mask mandates in the state. Chains including
Albertsons, H-E-B are Tom Thumb will require workers to wear face coverings
while asking, but not requiring, customers to do the same.
Target and others will require both associates and shoppers to wear masks in
stores.
“Employers will face more resistance from their workforce as they continue to
follow CDC guidance,” said Michael Correll, a labor and employment attorney at
Reed Smith. “Employers will also need to rally to better support their
customer-facing employees, who may now face more hostile customer reactions to
‘voluntary’ safety rules.”

White House Accelerates Vaccine Rollout
Biden Vows Enough Vaccine ‘for Every Adult American’ by End of May
Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. agrees to help manufacture rival Johnson &
Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine, in a deal partly brokered by the White House
President Biden said on Tuesday that the United States was “on track” to have
enough supply of coronavirus vaccines “for every adult in America by the end of
May,” accelerating his effort to deliver the nation from the worst public health
crisis in a century. He also said he wanted all
teachers to receive at least one shot by the end of this month.
In a brief speech at the White House, Mr. Biden said his administration had
provided support to Johnson & Johnson that would enable the company and its
partners to make vaccines around the clock. The administration had also brokered
a deal in which the pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. would help manufacture the

Retailers Form Hiring Alliances to Help Tens of Thousands Find Jobs
When pandemic-related shutdowns devastated some industries and turbocharged
others last spring, dozens of employers joined forces to match idled workers
with open jobs. Companies with urgent staffing needs in industries such as
healthcare, grocery and e-commerce formed large-scale matchmaking partnerships
with companies in hard-hit sectors such as hospitality, retail and airlines to
recruit workers who had been furloughed or laid off.
Almost a year later, the partnerships have matched many tens of thousands of
workers with open jobs, including retailers like Amazon, Walgreens,
Albertsons and others. Labor specialists say they could be a model for
future hiring alliances among employers.
For example, CVS Health Corp. formed hiring partnerships with 64 U.S.
employers—including Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Gap Inc.—as it raced to
fill open positions in its stores, warehouses and call centers amid a
coronavirus-fueled surge in its business last year. The pharmacy and insurance
giant created dedicated hiring websites for its partners’ displaced workers and
streamlined the selection process for some jobs. Of the more than 100,000 people
whom CVS recruited from March to December last year, about 3,700 came from the
new partnerships, according to a spokeswoman.

AWS director sues Amazon, alleging systemic racism in corporate office
A senior manager at Amazon Web Services has filed suit against the
company alleging race and gender discrimination, saying that she was underpaid,
denied promotions, and sexually assaulted at the firm.
Charlotte Newman, who is Black, began working at AWS in 2017 in a public policy
role. Prior to joining Amazon, she served as a congressional advisor, including
a senior role advising US Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ). From the start, she
alleges, she was "de-leveled" - hired at a position below the one for which she
applied and for which she was qualified - and undercompensated as a result.
Underpaying Black employees through de-leveling is routine at Amazon, the
lawsuit alleges. "When a company's top leaders traffic in stereotypes of
Black employees and fail to condemn intimidation tactics, managers farther down
the chain will take note of that modus operandi and behave accordingly," the
filing reads.
During the 2017-2019 time frame, no Black employees were hired at or promoted
to the director level ("L8") within Amazon's public policy division, the
suit alleges. Neither were any Black employees hired at the next level down, L7,
until December 2018. Newman had applied for an L7 position but was hired at L6;
the suit alleges that she did the work of an L7 job for several years before
receiving a promotion to that level in fall 2019.
While working for Amazon, Newman alleges that she faced multiple instances of
colleagues overtly engaging in racial stereotypes to discuss her or her work,
describing her as "just scary," "too direct," or looking "like a gorilla."

2021 Could See Record Retail Sales Growth but Economy Still Hinges on COVID
A
wide array of economic indicators point toward potentially record retail sales
growth during 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic remains the biggest challenge
for the year.
“There is no doubt the economy is positioned for growth in 2021, but how much
growth comes down to a single non-economic force – the coronavirus,”
National Retail Federation
Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said. “I am optimistic about improving
macroeconomic conditions as COVID-19 infections decline and distribution of
vaccines becomes more widespread. Yet the road is never straight, and we have
challenges ahead. The pandemic remains the largest uncertainty and the biggest
risk the economy faces in 2021.”
NRF forecast last week that 2021 retail sales – excluding automobile
dealers, gasoline stations and restaurants – will grow between 6.5 percent
and 8.2 percent over 2020 to between $4.33 trillion and $4.4 trillion. That
could top 2020’s growth of 6.7 percent, which broke the previous record of 6.3
percent set in 2004 despite the pandemic.

Patchwork of State Privacy Laws Growing
Virginia Follows California as 2nd State to Pass Comprehensive Data Privacy Law
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) signed the Consumer Data Protection Act on
Tuesday, making Virginia the second state in the U.S. to pass a comprehensive
data privacy law.
Gov. Ralph Northam just made Virginia the second state in the nation to adopt
its own data protection rules. The data privacy legislation signed into law on
Tuesday, known as the Consumer Data Protection Act,
will allow residents of the commonwealth to opt out of having their data
collected and sold, similar to
California's CCPA law that went into effect last year. Under the
new law, Virginia resident also can see what data companies have collected
about them, and correct or delete it.
It had broad support from the tech industry, including Amazon, which is building
an Arlington, Va., headquarters. The law will go into effect in 2023 and applies
to all businesses that control or process the proposal data of at least 100,000
consumers, derive more than 50 percent gross revenue from the sale of personal
data or process the personal data of at least 25,000 consumers.
Key takeaways:
● The Virginia law is widely viewed as more industry-friendly than the
California provision.
● Virginia’s new law signals that states increasingly are taking on tech
regulation after years of lack of action in Congress.
●
A growing patchwork of state laws could create more pressure on Congress to move
forward on federal privacy legislation.
●
Privacy advocates largely see the Virginia law as a mixed bag.

AI Supremacy: Russia, China Could Edge Out US, Experts Warn
Cyberattack and Disinformation Risks From AI Loom
Large, Commission Warns
The U.S. is in danger of falling behind China and Russia in developing
artificial intelligence technologies and countering cybersecurity threats that
could develop as AI use becomes more widespread, according to a newly released
report
from the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence.
The 750-page report offers more than 60 recommendations for how the U.S. could
become the world leader in developing and deploying AI technologies as well as
how to counter threats that leverage AI, including disinformation campaigns and
cyberattacks by nation-states. The commission recommends many of the same
changes to national policy that the Cyberspace Solarium Commission advocated in
a 2020 report.
"AI is deepening the threat posed by cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns
that Russia, China and others are using to infiltrate our society, steal our
data and interfere in our democracy," according to the report's executive
summary. "The limited uses of AI-enabled attacks to date represent the tip of
the iceberg."

Policy Group Calls for Public-Private Cyber-Defense Program
Creating plausible scenarios of cyberattacks launched by nations such as China
or Iran, or by domestic terrorists and hacktivists, a policy group has concluded
that too many roadblocks hinder the effective response to a major attack on US
government agencies or private industry.
In a report published last week, the New York Cyber Task Force (NYCTF) — a group
of policy makers, private industry, and consultants — recommended that the
United States create a
National Cyber Response Network, linking together existing government and
industry groups into collaborative network that could speed response to any
attack. The task force, sponsored by
Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), brings
together government cyber experts, policymakers, and private industry
professionals to address the national cybersecurity challenges that the United
States will face in the future.

Crime & Violence on the Rise in Canada
'It’s the Wild West' in Vancouver
Grocery store owner says violent incidents out of control
Surveillance
video from a downtown Vancouver grocery store has captured what the owner says
is another example of the increase in violence his staff is facing every day.
On Monday night around 8 p.m. a fight broke out between a man and staff at
the IGA store on Robson Street after the man had allegedly tried to steal some
coffee.
“It’s an ongoing topic of conversation, we’ve been trying to teach
de-escalation. It used to be, ‘Just recover the product and let the people
go,’ but now it’s become much more dangerous.” “We are mindful that it’s
not just us and our staff have to look after themselves.”
“We have seen this in the past year, especially in the downtown core, the
type of violence that comes with this theft,” she said. “This is one of the
reasons that we did launch Project Arrow. We
were noticing an uptick in shoplifting and shoplifting with violence.”
Just last week, the Vancouver police announced they arrested 130 suspects and
seized 35 weapons in a crackdown on violent shoplifting incidents in downtown
Vancouver.

Vancouver Burglaries at 10-Year High
'Massive' security concerns surround vacant space
With Vancouver business burglaries at a 10-year high, protecting
commercial real estate forced vacant by the pandemic requires 'boots on the
ground'
“Security is a huge concern right across the country,” he said, noting
that break-ins, squatters, vandalism and graffiti have all increased during the
pandemic.
Vancouver Police Department data shows 966 break-ins were reported in the city’s
central business district in 2020, up 21 per cent from 2019. Across the city,
business burglaries hit a 10-year high of 2,789 last year.
Mark Forward, vice-president, property management division, for Paladin
Security, Vancouver’s largest security agency, said there was a sharp
spike in downtown break-ins at the start of the pandemic, including thefts
from shuttered retail outlets.
Forward said many businesses have since been “hardening the premises” with
locks, hoarding, improved lighting, alarms, surveillance cameras and stepped-up
security patrols. This, along with colder weather, has reduced break-ins,
though vandalism and squatters remains a concern.

Crime-Fighting Partnership
Edmonton Police Foundation partnering with MacEwan to
prevent liquor store thefts
Thefts
from liquor stores are on the rise, not just in Edmonton, but across the
province. The Edmonton Police Foundation is now working with MacEwan University
to draw attention to the problem, while renewing calls to outfit liquor
stores with ID scanners at store entrances.
“The problem is out of control, especially
in the province of Alberta,” said Taylor Mann of Alcanna Inc. In 2019, nearly
9,600 stores were targeted. That’s three times as many as 2018. Alcanna Inc.
owns some of those stores.
“We’ve had loss prevention officers stabbed in the face; we’ve had bear
spray deployed multiple times. A lot of time it’s completely unprovoked as well
and that’s where it becomes quite concerning,” Mann said.
“It’s not just one person going in and stealing one bottle, it’s organized
crime groups going in and stealing large amounts of alcohol,” said Heather
Braid of MacEwan University.
The university has now teamed up with the Edmonton Police Foundation to create
an awareness campaign, asking bars that buy from legitimate sources to
display a badge. Awareness is just one way to stop the problem. Many
bottles and cans are equipped with tracking devices, according to police.
Those successes are a 94 per cent drop in thefts at the three Edmonton stores
that are using entrance identification systems. Six more stores in Edmonton and
four in Calgary will start using the ID entrance systems in the coming weeks.

Edmonton campaign plants actors in liquor store to help educate against theft
In an effort to make real change several community groups gathered at an
Edmonton liquor store for an educational surprise.
“We want to give people a real glimpse into what’s going on behind the scenes of
liquor store thefts, it’s really not an issue of one person coming in stealing
one bottle, it’s organized crime groups coming in and stealing a lot of
alcohol,” Heather Baird, MacEwan University’s Social Innovation Institute
academic lead, said.
To visually show that, actors hid behind a cooler and when a customer opened
the door, the actor would perform several skits about the significance of liquor
theft.
The show is part of the legally-sourced pledge program, a new initiative by the
Edmonton Police Foundation in partnership with liquor store giant Alcanna and
MacEwan’s Social Innovation Institute to lower liquor store thefts.

COVID Update
The Unintended Cost of Prolonged Shutdowns
Shorter, more frequent lockdowns could lead to fewer COVID-19 cases, study finds
A new study out of Toronto suggests that shorter, but more frequent
lockdowns, could lead to fewer cases of COVID-19. The study, conducted by
researchers at York University in Toronto, found that Ontario's current
practice of initiating lockdowns for longer periods of time may actually
decrease public compliance with these restrictions.
Using a model that reacts to "realistic social dynamics," including compliance
with physical distancing and self-isolation, researchers reported that social
fatigue and individual costs can "diminish the effectiveness of lockdowns and
lead to worse health outcomes."
"What we found is that as these restrictions prolong, those extra costs and
risks start to outweigh the risk of getting sick and so people begin to relax,
and so it's not that surprising to see that some of these effects are starting
to wane," Moyles said.
The study noted that shutdowns need to be "optimized" by taking into
account individual costs of lockdowns to reduce COVID-19 infections.

Planning for Canada's Post-COVID Retail
Comeback
Brick-and-Mortar Will Continue to Be Critical for Retail in Canada
Post-Pandemic: Claude Sirois
By
Sean Tarry - Courtesy of
Retail-Insider.com
As the consequences and repercussions of the COVID-19 global pandemic continue
to rage on, retailers across Canada and around the world are pivoting — shifting
their focus toward digital enhancements in order to address some of the more
predominant trends that have resulted.
A significant lack of footfall, combined with a synchronistic acceleration in
online shopping by the consumer, has forced many within the industry to make
some necessary adjustments toward the support of their e-commerce platforms and
the rise in online spending. In many cases, and quite rightly given current
circumstances, considerations related to the digital retail experience have
taken precedence over that of the physical in-store environment.
However, as we collectively, with cautious optimism, progress nearer to a
successful vaccine rollout and post-pandemic world that offers us at least a
glimpse of normalcy, brick-and-mortar retail is set to play a more critical role
than ever in anchoring and strengthening the overall retail experience.

Between
$5,000 and $10,000 worth of collectibles were stolen from Rebel Comics,
521 1 St. W, in the early hours of Feb. 28. Devin Petitclerc, of Rebel Comics,
believes two people were involved in the break-in. They smashed through the main

been in the store before because they appeared to know exactly where to look.
Among items taken were key comic issues displayed behind the till, the store's
cash register, Pokemon collectibles, Magic: The Gathering cards, and several
comic books near the front of the store. They were among the most valuable items
in the store. Petitclerc has been spreading word of the break-in and

New Pandemic Pastime
Young people are filling, then abandoning, e-commerce shopping carts
The
internet equivalent of window-shopping isn’t new. People have been picking out
items and abandoning carts for years. But the pastime appears to have
increased due to the coronavirus pandemic, as consumers are in need of
something to do and less willing to shell out money.
It’s “definitely a pandemic thing,” she added.
Ryczek isn’t alone. While describing their habit in interviews this month,
people compared it to therapy, a replacement for browsing around a store, or
just another way to pass time while stuck at home.
Brenna Shepherd told CNBC that she’s increased her time spent digital window
shopping during the coronavirus pandemic, using it as a way to spend her days or
procrastinate on school work.
The trend of mindlessly scrolling online, adding items to a cart and then
abandoning them isn’t necessarily the worst thing for retailers, since
they’re getting eyeballs on products and those could lead to potential
sales, explained Dennis Hegstad.
His company, LiveRecover, helps e-commerce companies re-capture shoppers who’ve
abandoned their carts by sending text message reminders to customers who get far
enough into the checkout process to include a phone number.

Biden vs. Amazon
Inside Joe Biden’s decision to dive into the Amazon union drive
Joe Biden’s endorsement of the right of workers at an Amazon facility in Alabama
to unionize was the culmination of weeks of private talks with labor organizers
and Democratic officials who viewed the standoff as an early test of the
president’s commitment to their cause.
Unions are hoping the message, delivered by a video over Twitter, is a sign that
organized labor will have staying power in the Biden White House and that it
fuels support for a broader overhaul of federal labor law and expansion of union
rights.
“If these workers can pull this off, it’s going to be the David and Goliath
of the 21st century in American labor relations,” said Levin, who was
sharply critical of Amazon’s tactics in the drive and plans to travel to Alabama
this week to support the workers.

Pittsburgh, PA: Man Pleads Guilty in Mystery Shopper Fraud Scheme
A
resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a
charge of fraud conspiracy, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman
announced today.. Robert Shon Jackson, 45, pleaded guilty to one count before
Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak. In connection with the guilty
plea, the court was advised that from around June 2013 to around October 31,
2013, Jackson participated in a Nigerian "mystery shopper" fraud scheme in which
victims were falsely led to believe that they were being employed to anonymously
evaluate products and services. After being recruited by the fraudsters, the
victims unwittingly received counterfeit U.S. Postal Service money orders and
checks, which they believed were provided to fund their evaluation purchases.
The victims were told to deposit the instruments, keep a small portion of the
funds for themselves, and wire the remainder to another individual who they
believed was another mystery shopper, but was in actuality a co-conspirator. The
counterfeit instruments were later returned to the bank, and the victims were
charged for the funds they had deposited and additional fees.
The court was further advised that Jackson received bulk shipments of
counterfeit USPS money orders sent from overseas, approximately 1,820 money
orders in total, valued at approximately $1,787,771.40, along with
counterfeit checks. Jackson also received mailing labels with the names and
addresses of victims to whom he was to send the counterfeit instruments. Jackson
would mail counterfeit money orders and checks to the victims along with
"mystery shopper" instructions directing them to check their email accounts for
additional instructions. The victims would be emailed instructions to wire funds
to Jackson, his wife, and other accomplices. Jackson used false return names and
addresses on the mailings of counterfeit instruments. Jackson would then receive
funds from the victims by wire, then himself wire a portion of the proceeds to
co-conspirators in Nigeria. Jackson kept a portion of the funds as his payment.
The losses associated with Jackson’s offense totaled $28,461.00.

Shootings & Deaths
Update: Columbus, GA: Suspect in double homicide outside Family Dollar
store in custody
Two
families are mourning the lives of loved ones killed in broad daylight Tuesday
at a Family Dollar store on Floyd Road in Columbus. Police believe 25-year-old
Quartez Thomas is the person responsible for the deaths of 30-year-old Jasmine
Trice and 28-year-old Kiera Williams. They were shot and killed in a car at the
Family Dollar store. Police say Thomas was an ex-boyfriend of Williams.
Williams’ six-year-old daughter was in the back seat of the car at the time of
the shooting. According to Trice’s friend, Erika Crawford, Trice died while
trying to help out a friend in need who feared for her and her child’s safety.
“She was telling me about how the guy shot Kiera’s mom’s house up the night
before,” said Crawford. “And I just was like, ‘be careful with that.’ ‘Don’t get
in the middle of that.’ I know they had already called the police and the dude
kept calling Kiera and the dude kept calling Kiera texting her and telling her
he was going to kill her. And he kept calling from all kind of different
numbers, and that’s all I know.”

Chicago, IL: 5 former Chicago Postal employees among 11 charged in theft, fraud
conspiracy
Five former U.S. Postal Service employees are among 11 individuals charged with
conspiring to steal credit cards and other financial instruments from the mail.
Federal authorities uncovered the 18-month conspiracy through a joint
investigation titled Operation Cash on Delivery. The former USPS employees, who
at the time worked as mail carriers in the Chicagoland area, are alleged to have
stolen credit cards and other financial instruments from the mail and provided
them to co-conspirators in exchange for cash or other items, according to a
20-count indictment unsealed Thursday in federal court in Chicago. Two of the
defendants unlawfully obtained USPS customers’ personal identifying information,
including dates of birth and Social Security numbers, which was then used to
fraudulently activate the stolen credit cards and make purchases at various
retailers, including Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics, Walmart and Meijer, the
charges allege.

Being a mentor can be an extremely worthwhile experience and sometimes the
mentee brings mentoring to the relationship as well because we all learn from
each other no matter what role we play. And while you may be reluctant or just
feel time-strapped, try giving it a chance even for a short time and see what
happens. As the old expression goes, one person can make a difference and you
could help a fellow LP executive grow beyond their own expectations and, in
having helped the number of people we've helped in our mere search role, I for
one can say there is no better feeling in the world than helping someone reach
beyond! That's what has actually kept me doing what I do for all these years!
