San
Antonio, TX: Three arrested in $50,000 Organized Retail Theft ring
More than $50,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered Tuesday
after police arrested three people accused of leading that property crime
ring. Sgt. Daniel Anders with the San Antonio Police Department said the
fencing interdiction team had been following the crew in action for a few
months and Tuesday afternoon, the team arrested three people for organized
retail crime. The suspects are two women, one 50 years old and one 20 years
old, and a 46-year-old man. Police said the three were paying "boosters" or
people for stealing items from local sporting good and department stores.
Anders said they stole mostly clothing and shoes, but also nonprescription
pharmaceutical items and $4,000 cash. The three will be charged with
organized retail crime, which is a felony. Anders said they also arrested a
few of those so-called "boosters." He said they are also looking to see if
this operation is part of a bigger ring.
