Woman gets 3 years for role
in $200M credit card fraud scam A Philadelphia
woman has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for her role in a
$200 million credit card fraud scheme the U.S. Department of Justice calls the
largest it has prosecuted. Vernina Adams had pleaded guilty. She was sentenced
Friday in federal court in Trenton, New Jersey.
The Department of Justice
says the New Jersey-based crime ring created more than 7,000 fake identities to
get tens of thousands of credit cards. Nineteen people were charged, including
the 34-year-old Adams in 2013.

"(They) were conducting a credit card scam making large purchases with fake
credit cards," explained Sgt. Delaney adding, "The subjects purchased several
cell phones, X- Box and PlayStation games and systems and I-Tune cards which
were recovered totaling over $10,000, along with several fake credit cards."
The subjects are also believed to be implicated in similar and
larger credit card theft ring in the area," added Sgt. Delaney.
Leonard Mcmillan, 22, Charles Solomon, 22, and Alvin Adams, 21, are all facing
multiple charges.

10 minutes One of two women accused of swiping
$10,000 in products from at least seven different Sonoma County stores was
arrested Sunday. The arrest of 23-year-old Markia Silva, of Oakland, came after
she and her accomplice were spotted shoplifting at a CVS store and a Safeway
store within the span of 10 minutes. The pair had stolen medicine, cosmetics,
personal hygiene items and baby formula - products authorities say are commonly
re-sold online - from various stores in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg and
Rohnert Park. Employees inside a CVS store told police that two women took baby
formula and teeth whitening strips without paying for them. Nine minutes later,
workers at a Safeway reported another theft and gave authorities the same
suspect descriptions.

Johnson City, TN: Two women, 80 and 63 arrested for
theft of over
$700 in merchandise Two women from Spruce
Pine are charged with shoplifting after police say they tried to return damaged
clothing to a store, but the store would not do the return. According to a release from the Johnson City
Police Department, once the store refused their returns, they got a shopping
cart and put various clothes in it. A loss prevention officer told police that
the two took the items into a fitting room where they removed the security tags,
then left the store. The clothing was valued at $724.
