Stanley Security Launches Responsive Wireless Lockdown Solution at 2016 ISC West
SHELTER by BEST is Designed to Secure
Educational, Business and Healthcare Environments
Indianapolis, IN
- April 4, 2016 - STANLEY Security, a leading global
manufacturer and integrator of comprehensive security solutions for a wide range
of industries, announces the launch of BEST SHELTER, a responsive lockdown
solution, designed specifically for educational K-12, business and healthcare
environments. SHELTER will be showcased -- for the first time -- at the International Security Conference and Expo (ISC West) in Las Vegas, April 6-8 in
STANLEY Security booth #16099. This solution was developed with input from those
who have experienced live lockdown situations, which led to an innovative set of
features and functionality that can be customized to immediately respond based
on the user's needs in a lockdown situation. SHELTER is a unique combination of
cost-effective, code-compliant mechanical hardware and proven technologies.
Multi-Purpose Fob to Lockdown One Door or Entire Building
With an increase in mass tragedies that are usually over in five minutes or
less, the SHELTER fob by BEST allows for quick communication with the SHELTER
wireless system to initiate a lockdown and third-party notification of an event.
This multi-purpose fob permits a fast and easy lockdown of one door, hallway or
entire building. With assistance from an integration resource, the SHELTER
network components can be configured to initiate a signal to a pre-installed
access control system or alarm systems, allowing immediate communication with
first responders. The straightforward, effortless press of a button can initiate
a series of events that make a facility safer and more responsive in emergency
situations.
Cylindrical Lockset: Classroom or Storeroom Functions
When the lockdown is initiated from the fob, it is communicated to an attached
lockset called the BEST SHELTER 9KX Cylindrical Lockset (9KX). This is a BHMA
Grade 1 lock that functions on a 900 MHz secure wireless network, enabling users
to quickly and safely lock doors by activating the fob. After receiving a
lockdown command from the system, the 9KX transitions from a standard classroom
function lock to a Storeroom function. This feature ensures the hallway lever is
rigid and secure, only allowing users to enter if they have a key. The 9KX is
also equipped with easy-to-understand visual indicators with a red LED being
used to indicate the device is in lockdown, Storeroom function, and a green LED
being used to indicate a lock has returned to normal operation.
Gateway and Repeaters: Core to the SHELTER System
The gateway and repeaters are the core to the SHELTER system. The gateway does
not require internet connection to initiate the lockdown, which alleviates
concerns that a network must be operational during the most critical times. With
a typical 400-foot range, the gateway can be paired with up to eight repeaters
to extend the signal range throughout the building.
