Walmart Canada to grand-open 30 stores in October. Walmart will add two supercenter conversions and 28 new stores
totaling 2.4 million sq. ft. of retail space. The new stores
were former Zellers locations; 10 will be converted to
supercenters and 18 will be Wal-Mart Canada discount stores.
As of Oct. 31, the company will have completed 50 of the 73
real estate projects planned for the year, bringing the
company's store count to 367 stores: 193 supercenters and
174 discount stores.

recent frenzy over star-spangled stores has just taken off

While the dollar stores have been booming in the US they
just now started taking off in Canada and have become the
fastest growing retail sector there.
They're forcing mainstream merchants, ranging from
discounter Walmart Canada Corp. to generalist Canadian Tire
Corp., to step up their own dollar promotions. While dollar
stores have been a looming threat for years, today they are
becoming a bigger force as Canadian market leader Dollarama
Inc. expands aggressively and U.S. rival Dollar Tree Stores
Inc. ramps up its operations here after having scooped up a

Canadian Retailers make a Big Push to hold off next year’s
foreign attack.
On the Anniversary one year ahead of the
surge of American retailer hitting the shores of Canada, the
Retailers are armed with big sales and discount hopefully to
gain the loyalty of their customer base. Holt Renfrew & Co.
Ltd. to Sears Canada Inc., Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. and
Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd., merchants are touting their
Canadian roots even though some of them aren’t domestically

Canadians made 156,000 overnight
automobile trips to the U.S. in July 2012, a 43% increase
over July 2011, the largest ever.

Port Hope, Ontario Razor blade thieves busted for nearly
$7000. Police have
a great lead on the second suspect that bolted from the
Shoppers Drug Mart, they have his wallet that he left behind
in the get-a-way car. Approximately 50 packages of razor
blades were concealed in the suspect’s coat sleeves, the
alarm went off at the door, but the suspects did purchase
some legitimate items.

Calgary Police investigate a violent convenience store
robbery.
The cashier of the store was attempting to cooperate with
the armed robber’s demands, just not fast enough for the
robber. The suspect pistol whipped the cashier several times,
knocking him to the ground, then stealing the entire cash
register drawer and fleeing the store.

Peel Police continue to investigate shooting at Sheridan
Centre Mall.
Peel Regional Police are investigating a shooting at
Sheridan Centre Mall Wednesday evening. Officers cordoned
off an area near the parking garage at the mall. There are
no reported injuries, but officers have discovered several
shell casings on scene.

Serial Shoplifter in Nova Scotia hits for over 30 times,
targeting Oil of Olay.
Prosecutors stated that Melvin Murray Ferguson of Sydney was
responsible for the theft of over $2000 of Oil of Oley
products in just one week this past June. Police charged
Ferguson with 30 thefts, he plead guilty to nice on Tuesday and
has been sentenced to eight months in jail. Ferguson had 19
prior theft convictions on his record.
