Major
identity theft ring busted in Spokane, Wash., after buying
hundreds of thousands of dollars in goods with fraudulent
credit cards
Police arrested one suspect and expect there's a number of
other individuals involved. Investigators said the theft
ring racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen
credit. The warrants were the result of a large scale
identity theft investigation multiple agencies have been
investigating since mid-September, 2012. The U.S. Postal
Inspector, U.S. Secret Service, Social Security
Administration, Spokane County Investigative Task Force and
Spokane Police were all part of the raid. Detectives say
they've recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen
material. Deputies say there are over 300 victims, from all
over the country, and many are active-duty military.
Investigators said the suspects were opening credit cards in
other people's names. This investigation is on-going and
additional arrests and search warrants are expected. The
Sheriff's Office said they are looking into how the ring
became so large. (Source
