Police
target Las Vegas retail theft rings with RAPP program
LAS VEGAS -- Metro is training undercover police officers on how to
bust professional thieves who target stores. The police began the
training program in the summer and have made 17 arrests and
recovered thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise. Sgt. Seifert
leads RAPP, or Retail Apprehension Prevention and Partnership. The
program uses undercover officers to pose as shoppers in local stores
and malls. More officers will be dedicated to the program in the
coming weeks as the holiday season nears. (Source

ORC couple hitting Wal-Marts in Washington state A
child is part of the scheme that allows thieves to walk away with
cash instead of shoplifted items. It starts with a cash receipt
found discarded in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The receipt is as good
as gold to this pair who, with a child present, have hit at least
eight Wal-Marts in the region. "She presents the merchandise. She
presents the receipt. There's nothing for the employee to question,"
said Puyallup Police Det. Mike Lusk. The cash for those items is
handed over, and the crime is complete. They've busted the female
and are looking for her accomplice. (Source
