and September 21, 2012 the Daily has reported on 1,226 ORC
apprehensions and over $200M in known theft with an average
per-suspect amount of $168,350
Given the fact that this information is gathered
predominately from news sites it represents a mere fraction
of the total activity in apprehensions as retailers avoid
reporting such activity to the press. None the less the
per-suspect amount is very close to other studies conducted
in the industry.
Hialeah, FL., murder case leads to cargo theft ring in
southern Florida Hialeah
businessman already accused of murder has been indicted
along with six others for running a cargo-theft ring that
bought stolen property from cargo thefts and sold the goods
in his beauty supply stores. One of the victims was Kohl's

Final suspect in large scale shoplifting ring operating in
New England and possibly up and down the east coast arrested
in Brooklyn Bedford NH Police
Department fugitive, Dwayne Dollar, 27, was arrested last
week in Brooklyn, NY by members of the U.S. Marshals
Fugitive Task Force. Dollar is the final outstanding suspect
in a large scale shoplifting ring that was operating
though-out New England and possibly up and down the east
coast. This group was targeting Staples office supply stores
and stealing items such as ink cartridges, computers,
calculators and other items. The financial losses to these
stores are likely measured in the tens of thousands of
dollars or more. (Source

Long Island Razor Blade thief moves camera prior to the
theft at Giant Foods. On
September 7 a man is seen in the health and beauty aisle of
the store, moving the surveillance camera. On that day he
took nothing according to Loss Prevention. The following day
the thief returned to steal nearly $200 in razor blades.
