Retail Theft Ring Arrested
Police have dismantled a ring of three specializing
in thefts and fraudulent refunds from retail stores
in Toronto, Uxbridge, Stouffville and Pickering.
Detectives from the West Division Criminal
Investigations Bureau (Property Crimes Unit) began
tracking the three suspects in early January after
multiple thefts of small, but valuable items, like
designer perfume, electric shavers and battery
chargers were reported from retail stores in the
four cities. (Source

Retail crime cost the high street £1.4bn last year - an
increase of around a third, according to a British Retail
Consortium survey
The BRC's survey found that burglaries were down by 42% but
the average cost of each burglary rose 83% to over £2,000.
Similarly, incidents of customer theft fell by 20%, but the
cost rose by 21% - leaving shopkeepers out of pocket by an
average £85.50, compared to £70.44 in 2009/10. (Source
