male suspect arrested in Rock Falls for multiple instances in three counties
A Rock Falls man accused of multiple instances of shoplifting was arrested this
week by two different police agencies stemming from cases in three counties.
According to a news release Thursday from Sterling police, Matthew W. Kornewald,
36, of Rock Falls, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Rock Falls

Duo charged with robbing Radio Shack of $56,000 before high-speed chase in
Tampa, FL A North Tampa man and a Pasco County woman have been charged
with robbing a Radio Shack Wednesday in Sun City Center and leading authorities
on a high-speed chase along Interstate 75 that ended with two sheriff's deputies
opening fire on their vehicle. Jovanny Pena, 30, walked into the store at 3842
Sun City Blvd. wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun, deputies said. Bryna
McLaughlin, 30, sat in the front seat of an SUV outside the store. Inside, Pena
forced everyone to give him their valuables and left the store with 90 cell
phones worth about $56,000. He rejoined McLaughlin and drove away. Deputies
located the SUV, but Pena refused to stop and a chase ensued on northbound I-75.

men bought $7K in merchandise with stolen credit cards in Jersey City
Four New York men were arrested Tuesday outside the Holland Tunnel and charged
with using stolen credit cards to purchase $7,000 in merchandise from a Jersey
City Target, a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokeswoman said. The
suspects, all of Brooklyn – were charged with credit card theft and fraudulent
use of a credit card after allegedly buying thousands of dollars worth of
electronics and gift cards at the nearby store. Police recovered nine iPads, six
Target gift cards, 20 iTunes gift cards and three cell phone refill cards –

Woman stole vacuum cleaner to pawn, facing 5 years for Organized Retail theft
Michelle Renee Greene, 1609 Waverly, pleaded guilty to organized retail crime on
Tuesday morning in Ottawa County Circuit Court. For her plea, prosecutors agreed
not to charge her with any other thefts in the county. Greene said she took a
Dyson vacuum cleaner from the Grand Haven Township Meijer and sold it to a
pawnshop. Her criminal history in Ottawa County includes convictions for being
assaultive, drunk driving, use of marijuana and driving on a suspended license.

Man, woman accused of $2000 merchandise theft from Walmart in Fuquay-Varina, NC
Police charged a man from Forsyth County and a woman from Randolph County with
felony larceny early Thursday for what officers charged was shoplifting almost
$2,100 worth of toiletries and pharmacy products from a Walmart store.
