Gus Downing is the
Publisher and Editor of the D&D Daily e-newsletter and
President of the Executive Search & Consulting firm of
Downing & Downing, Inc. Established in 1983, the firm
specializes in the Retail Loss Prevention & Safety
industries. Over the years it has successfully staffed
more senior Loss Prevention positions, and helped design
and build more Loss Prevention teams then any other firm
in history. The firm which maintains the largest market
share in North America is also heavily involved in
delivering organizational and compensation benchmarking
surveys that have helped redefine LP models and impact
the industry’s compensation levels.
As the Publisher & Editor of the D&D Daily e-newsletter
- his team has developed what most consider to be the #1
news and information resource for the LP industry in
North America. The Daily - which now reaches over
750,000 readers annually was designed to educate, inform
and instill a sense of community for the LP industry in
North America and is now expanding its readership to
include the UK and western Europe.
Gus, himself, is a second generation retail Loss
Prevention executive with 13 years of hands-on
experience in the LP industry as well. Over his career
Gus has been involved in a number of other successful
business ventures that include introducing interactive
training programs to the loss prevention industry,
launching and helping to develop one of the industry's
loss prevention outsourcing models, consulting with a
number of leading Loss Prevention Solution Providers,
and over the last three years launching the LP
industry’s first daily e-newsletter the D&D Daily.
With an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts Gus is an
accomplished author and has dedicated his career to the
improvement and enhancement of the retail Loss
Prevention industry.

Gordon Smith
- Retail Crime & ORC
Editor
Gordon served
the Loss Prevention industry for 17 years before
returning to the Downing & Downing team as an Executive
Search Consultant. He has expanded his role as a
contributing writer and editor for the D&D Daily,
bringing his industry expertise to the Retail Crime and
ORC columns. Gordon's career in Loss Prevention covers
discount and full-line department stores, membership
warehouse and specialty retail formats, and attaining
positions from District, Regional, and Director of
Security Services. Gordon holds a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Criminal Justice from Edinboro University of
Pennsylvania, was a former Certified Protection
Professional (CPP), and he also proudly served with the
U.S. Army's Military Police.

Katie Bowles
- Content Editor
As Content Editor of the D&D Daily e-newsletter, Katie
manages the layout and visual presentation of the Daily
each day, in addition to writing articles, coordinating
content and graphics, conducting research and updating
the d-ddaily.com website. Katie was also the
Editor/Webmaster for her Music Fraternity, Sigma Alpha
Iota, while attending college, where she gained her
knowledge of formatting and updating websites. She holds
a BA in Creative Writing from Ohio University.

Mike Crissman
- Managing Editor & Vendor Advocate
Mike's various
responsibilities for the D&D Daily include coordinating
content, writing articles and maximizing value and
exposure for sponsors on the e-newsletter through his
role as Vendor Advocate. He also manages production for
the Loss Prevention News Network and oversees production
of the weekly LP Newswire e-newsletter to the industry.
Prior to joining Downing & Downing, Mike wrote for other
publications including Cleveland Magazine,
Inside Business and Lake Erie Living Magazine.
He graduated from Kent State University with a
bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in public
relations.

Sean Colarossi
- Staff Writer/Digital Coordinator
Sean's various roles with the D&D
Daily include helping to
manage the layout and visual presentation of the e-newsletter, writing articles, coordinating
content, conducting research and updating
the d-ddaily.com website.
Sean brings to the team a background in journalism, politics and community
involvement. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the
University of Massachusetts Amherst and an Associate of Arts degree in
Journalism from Lakeland Community College, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the
student-run newspaper The Lakelander.
