"Click & Mortar" merging online and offline retail to retain customers and reclaim the shopping experience "Omnichannel" retail, which unites physical stores, e-commerce, mobile and social selling into one seamless experience for the customer. Integrating all customer touch points and supporting the brand and creating a uniform brand experience regardless of what point the customer touches. Envision a time when every customer is constantly connected, when they can be in the store and online at the same time connected by their mobile device. It's rare right now and analysts say Nordstrom is a leader in omnichannel retailing right now. It requires all departments, from operations to IT to merchants and even the LP teams to work together and eliminate the silos and become an omniretail operation. The customer is there now and the retail industry has a long way to go to get there. The positive is that we know what tomorrow looks like. The challenge is getting there. From an LP prospective we have to eliminate the boundaries and redefine our touch points. (Source cio.com)

While working for Orange County, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. In 1981, he entered into the retail loss prevention industry as a Regional Loss Prevention Manger for Little General Stores in Tampa, FL. Over his 32 years in the industry, he held executive positions with a number of retailers including Byron Stores, Enstar Specialty Retail, Silo, Goody's Family Clothing and Thorn Americas and earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation through ASIS.

In 1999, Larry joined the Navy Exchange Service Command as the District Loss Prevention/Safety Manager in Pensacola, FL. In 2005, Larry transferred to Naples, Italy as the District Loss Prevention/Safety Manager for the European District. Investigators say the basic baby necessity is what a group of women was using to rip off stores and make some money. According to court documents, Wilhite is accused of running a large retail organized theft ring that included baby formula. She's accused of stealing 88 cans herself during three different trips to area Target stores. The day after Wilhite was charged, police also charged Natalie Daniels and Charlotta Stephens. Investigators believe they all worked together, and in just two months time, managed to steal a total of 200 cans. (Source go.com)

"Never underestimate your ability to make someone else’s life better –Even if you never know it." –Greg Louganis.

In my short six years of being a Loss Prevention (LP) professional I have encountered many LP personalities the arrogant, the ignorant, and the one that underestimates the ability to make someone else’s life better. I won’t write about the first two because terms such as non-productive detainment, lawsuits, and physical danger are part of both.

Loss Prevention professionals underestimate the fact that what we do as LP professionals not only reduces shrink or eliminates shoplifting. I was working for a company as a field agent for over three years.

I encountered a group of 6 young men that made a bad decision on July 4, 2010; I saw the young men enter the store, even though they thought they were "young pros" they were completely obvious and unaware that I was watching them. I followed policy and procedure and continued with my 5 steps prior to making the apprehension. I proceeded with my apprehension and apprehended 3 of the 6 men. I was neither arrogant nor ignorant and treated the young men with respect, even though they had made a mistake. One asked me "we are going to jail, aren't we?" the other replied "we are. They are going to see three young black men and they will take us to jail."

Even though I have been reminded that we have to have zero sympathy for shoplifters, it was different with them. I told them everything would be ok, and decided to speak to each of them; I asked them about their goals in life and gave them scenarios of things that would happen if they kept friendships with the wrong people. All three were intelligent young men, they just needed someone to believe and show them moral support. I decided to ask the police officer to just cite them and let them go; the officer complied.

Court day came for one of the boys; he was dressed in a long sleeve and a nice tie. With him were his parents. We took the same elevator up and when we took the exit to the 3rd floor the young boy stopped me and said "thank you." Even though he only said two words to me, I underestimated what I had done for that young boy. Now I know that I helped him change, and it only took respect and words of wisdom from a LP professional to make a change.

I underestimated my ability to make someone else’s life better, and I didn't even know it...

8 Things Remarkably Successful People Do The most successful people in business work differently. In fact, there are eight things specifically that they do differently than those less successful than them. Read this article to see what they do -- and why it works. (Try, try again)

How to Encourage Healthy Conflict Unhealthy conflicts (those that are avoided or shut out some ideas) can cause an organization to become dysfunctional. There might be a decrease in authentic connections, triggering a negative impact to productivity with behind-the-scenes scheming or passive behaviors that slow or stop progress. (Be courageous)
The Skills Most Leaders Don't Have For too long, we've thought of "hard skills" and "soft skills" as mutually exclusive. Hard skills are supposed to provide the value, and soft skills supposed to be subordinate, inferior, and all about feelings. In reality, there is nothing "soft" about the skills needed. True leadership involves both hard skills and harder skills. (Don't trip up)

Do Psychopaths Make Good CEOs? Must thrive in a fast-paced environment. Should be cool under pressure. You find these cliches in most job descriptions these days. You may have even written one of these descriptions. Little did you know that your ideal candidate might well be a psychopath. (That's right)

Being a mentor can be an extremely worthwhile experience and sometimes the mentee brings mentoring to the relationship as well because we all learn from each other no matter what role we play. And while you may be reluctant or just feel time-strapped, try giving it a chance even for a short time and see what happens. As the old expression goes, one person can make a difference and you could help a fellow LP executive grow beyond their own expectations and, in having helped the number of people we've helped in our mere search role, I for one can say there is no better feeling in the world than helping someone reach beyond! That's what has actually kept me doing what I do for all these years!

Just a Thought,
