eBay CEO Discusses Changes in Retail Landscape

eBay CEO, John Donahoe, says standard approaches to retail are "crumbling stunningly fast," at Web 2.0 Summit this week. "The boundary between online and offline is blurring," John said, adding that in the past 18 months, half of retail transactions involved the web, whether through product research, price comparisons or actual transactions." These consumer trends have broad implications and "Retailers need help," John stressed, noting that eBay Inc.'s new open X.commerce platform can help merchants leverage mobile, social and local channels to reach buyers. EBay, for example, is developing an image searching system that lets shoppers take a mobile photo of shoes they like and then call up photos of similar shoes in the retailer's inventory. Such an image-based search system, compared to searches using words, could be a "big step" toward the future of shopping. Click here for full article

Having a strategy or a plan about everything you do is important if you expect to win long term.  Daily victories are nothing without a long-term plan.  They fade quickly and leave the audience expecting more, which only a plan and strategy will satisfy.  So after your next victory, ask yourself what am I going to do next?

Just a thought
