The New York man and wife who killed 4 people during a pharmacy robbery at 10 am on a Sunday morning on June 19th plead guilty last Thursday.  The man killed two employees and two customers and then filled his backpack with hydrocodone-type painkillers while his wife waited in the getaway car.  (Source cnn.com)

Congress wants to tighten the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) law that is currently being reviewed to more clearly define what illegal access to computers really means.  While the Obama administration is focused on increasing criminal penalties, Congress wants them to also concentrate on real cybercrimes and not minor things like if an employee accesses their personal email or checks the weather at work.  The Department of Justice position is that "changes in CFAA's language may open up U.S. companies or government agencies to more insider threats.  The challenge is to address those concerns and, at the same time, not to create a significant loophole that would allow workers at federal agencies or private companies to steal the personal information of customers."  (Source computerworld.com)

Another booth operator at #1 Outlet Mall in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was sentenced to 30 months at hard labor, which was suspended to 30 months' probation for selling counterfeit CD's and DVD's after police seized 5,000.  Attorney General Buddy Caldwell stated, "Our office will continue to actively pursue and prosecute those individuals who are selling counterfeit merchandise on the black market. There are fraudsters out there selling everything from fake handbags to prescription medicines. Counterfeit goods seriously harm our legitimate Louisiana businesses and often endanger the safety of our citizens."  (Source katc.com)

A Virginia woman was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for leading a "sophisticated" conspiracy to import and sell counterfeit Cisco Systems networking equipment, the U.S. Department of Justice said.  In addition to the prison time, Judge Gerald Bruce Lee of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia also ordered Chun-Yu Zhao, 43, of Chantilly, Virginia, to pay US$2.7 million restitution and a $17,500 fine.  Lee also stripped Zhao, from China, of her U.S. citizenship and ordered her to forfeit four homes in Maryland and northern Virginia, three condominiums in Chantilly, a Porsche Boxster, a Porsche Cayenne, a Mercedes sedan and seven bank accounts containing more than $1.6 million.  (Source pcworld.com)

An Indiana man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for selling counterfeit payment cards that caused more than $3 million in losses after the U.S. Secret Service found 21,000 stolen credit cards abd encoding equipment in his apartment.  The suspect, Tony Perez, 21, purchased the the stolen credit card information from underground carding forums and was ordered to forfeit more than $2.8 million in proceeds and pay a $250,000 fine.  (Source theregister.com)

The Walgreens pharmacist, who last May 8th, on an early Sunday morning, drew and fired his own gun driving off two robbers was fired last week and now he's suing WalgreensHis attorney told ABC news "Walgreens should have commended his client for bravery. That, too, is the opinion of township police Lt. Delman Lange, who, after reviewing the surveillance video, told the local paper, "If it was me, I would have done the same thing."  "Only 42 seconds elapsed from start to finish, and all the action was captured on surveillance video.  Before firing, Hoven first tried dialing 911. But before he could complete the call, the first of the two robbers had vaulted over a counter and was standing five feet away from him. That's when the pharmacist went for his own gun and opened fire.  Though Hoven was licensed by the state of Michigan to carry a gun, Walgreen discourages its pharmacists from packing pistols. A spokeswoman for the drug chain told ABC News in an email that while Walgreens would not be able to disclose its policies, they were written to protect the safety of customers and employees."  (Source ksfo.com)

engineers, researchers and technicians deployed in 11 primary Threat Operations Centers (TOC) locations worldwide whose marching orders are to analyze threats and do everything possible to mitigate those threats as quickly as possible.  "The amount of security-related data pouring into the TOC is staggering. "I never wake up in the morning and think I don't have enough access to data. I do wake up frequently in the morning and think 'what are we going to do with all this data?'" says Rush Carskadden, a product line manager in Cisco's security technology business unit."  (Source csoonline.com)
