eBay Investigators Assistance Leads to Employee Theft Conviction

eBay Global Asset Protection team supported an investigation into alleged sale of stolen TV’s leads to conviction of former employee on theft charges. The former Olympus employee pleaded guilty to defrauding Olympus Corporation of over $374,000. The suspect admitted that he purchased televisions through Olympus, where he was employed with the Scientific Equipment Group. According to the original criminal complaint, he purchased large quantities of Vizio LCD HD televisions, selling them on eBay. According to defense attorney, the suspect would then intercept the purchase orders and alter them to reflect the purchase of a Dell workstation or a piece of scientific equipment. Some of the televisions were delivered to his home, but a large quantity were delivered directly to purchasers. Two weeks before Olympus began an internal audit of the department, the suspect abruptly quit, relocating with his family to Katy, Texas. He was arrested and extradited in April 2012 and has been in Lehigh County Prison since his extradition. Click here for full article.

The Imperfect Balance Between Work and Life One major hurdle in the work place is artificial images of perfection. Certainly institutional structures don't make it easy to balance work and the rest of life. This is especially true in the U.S., where vacations are short and sabbaticals are rare. In addition, American culture holds up myths of perfection that consume time, money and attention. (Perfect, perfect, perfect)

Tip of the Day Sponsored by: Vector Security

Making it new every day and getting energized - pumped up every day can be difficult at times. But it's important to try to find that spark each and every day to make sure you're adding value, getting things done, and motivating the people around you. It's always great to drive home and think - where did the day go because you were so busy and had so many things to get done, which usually means you were pumped up and energized. But it's a terrible feeling when you can't get out of first gear and the day drags on forever. Just remember, oftentimes it's merely mind over matter and you make your own day and, quite frankly, you're also making the day for a lot of people around you and they're looking to you to set the pace.

Just a Thought,
Gus Downing
