Agilence "Far exceeds ROI expectations" in Rite Aid Roll-Out. In January, 2011 Rite Aid began a rollout of Agilence’s Hawkeye POS Video Auditing program in 590 high shrink stores with the objective of reducing their front-end shrinkage. After one full year of operations and a financial analysis, the results have far exceeded the expected ROI calculations for each unit and consequently Rite Aid has now rolled out over 1100 total locations with the possibility of many more in the coming months. Bob Oberosler, Group Vice President of Asset Protection for Rite Aid, stated that the performance and results of Agilence's POS Video Auditing has gone well beyond impacting shrinkage and has had some major wins in the operations areas as well. The results have been outstanding and, while the numbers are proprietary, their results have been very, very compelling and more than warrant an expansion of the program. Rite Aid is also currently piloting Agilence’s new store-level business intelligence solution, Retail 20/20, that will replace Navistor. Bob’s initial impression is that it is extremely user friendly; it has the ability to lay out the data in multiple ways including graphs, and it has the ability to offer a different dashboard for different groups of users.

Credit card fraud, fraudulent and/or bad checks, fraudulent traveler’s checks and counterfeit currency are other concerns that should not be ignored. Each of these areas have available controls that can be utilized by retailers. Meet with your Finance Department to learn about the controls that are currently in place. Ask them to provide you with regular reports on fraud losses. Review how employees are trained to accept checks. Is there a check guarantee program? Are ultraviolet lights used to check for counterfeit currency, traveler’s checks and credit cards? Do employees check for identification? Are imprinters used for credit cards that won’t scan? The best way to prevent fraud is by having well trained and alert employees. Train employees to follow all of the required steps when accepting credit cards, checks, traveler’s checks and currency.

Multitasking is Making You Stupid Multitasking may be ubiquitous in today's plugged in, multi-device world, but you've probably already heard not everyone thinks just because you can do multiple things at once you that you should. Doing many things at once isn't just distracting--it actually takes points off of your IQ, scientists say. (Listen to Harvard)

How to Accomplish More By Doing Less It’s a common work experience. You're great at your job, and you are rewarded with more duties. As your responsibilities grow, so does your list of to-dos and concerns. You work furiously to keep up, but there’s not enough of you to go around. Rather than lifting your team's productivity, you are actually standing in the way. (Bottleneck-in-Chief)

Top 5 Skills for Effective Employee Management The essence of effective leadership is motivating your team to consistently perform while instilling a desire to improve, as well as cultivate employee loyalty to colleagues, yourself and, ideally, the company. It can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be if you approach it with the right attitude and priorities.  (Open door policy)

How to Get Someone to Like You Immediately If you’re meeting with someone for the first time or starting a new job, you want to make a great first impression. But aside from the obvious (be friendly, polite, and dress well), is there anything you can do to get someone to like you immediately? Famed psychologist Robert Cialdini has found one of the most overlooked strategies to solve the problem.  (Building relationships)

Turn Yourself Around

Seems like we spend most of our time just managing and dealing with the issues, problems, and dysfunctions on our own teams as opposed to staying focused on our external or internal customers. And the issue is we all have customers to service whether you're a retailer or vendor and in that regard nothing separates us. As a service provider our number one objective should always be delivering unparalleled customer service. And how many of us really do just that? Very few I submit. And in this writers opinion it's because of human nature. It's human nature to avoid conflict and take the path of least resistance and quite frankly getting lost in the dynamics of our teams is a lot easier then facing the expectations, demands, and criticisms of our customers. After all, at the end of the day the customers are the ones who truly know our weaknesses and have first hand knowledge of our failures. And who do you know wants to face that eight to twelve hours a day? So the human nature of avoidance kicks in and gravity forces us to face inwards and get lost in the daily battle of team dynamics and the associated social politics. Meanwhile our back is to the customer and true progress grinds to a halt. Certainly managing a team requires significant time but the message here is quite simple, and one that this writer has to remind himself of every day: The more you face your customer and focus your efforts on simply adding value to their efforts the more successful you'll be.
