Britains' Reaction ...

London looters attempting to sell stolen goods on eBay will be blocked from doing so, the company said in a statement.  "Our thoughts are with the businesses and communities affected by recent events in London and around the UK. eBay will cooperate fully with the investigating authorities to identify and remove any listings which are linked to criminal activity," the statement read.  (Source

Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron today promised vigorous and wide-ranging measures to restore order and prevent riots erupting again on Britain's streets - including taking gang-fighting tips from American cities.  British police raided houses to round up more suspects from four days of rioting and looting.  They're considering new powers and action that includes allowing police to order "thugs" to remove masks or hoods, evicting troublemakers from subsidized housing and temporarily disabling cell phone instant messaging services.  They're also looking at possibly using water cannons and plastic bullets if violence continues.  Cameron promised tough measures to stop further violence and said "nothing should be off the table."  (Source

ICE, law enforcement officers, and private investigators raid a Detroit store, Dollar Palace Plus, and confiscated hundreds of counterfeit designer items after receiving complaints about the store selling counterfeit goods.  The private investigations industry plays a huge role in the counterfeit goods world and is usually the manufacturers eyes and ears on the street.  Most "gray goods" operations include a network of private investigators worldwide with some of the larger manufacturers actually having their own teams especially in the Asian rim.  Actually at one point Levi Strauss had one of the largest teams world wide.  (Source

In the wake of the Congress woman's shooting this summer in front of a Safeway store Safeway has started cracking down on paid petition signature gatherers who congregate outside their grocery stores.  Safeway says the signature gatherers don't abide by their corporate policies, block entrances and harass customers, and so has started a crackdown that, in some instances, includes seeking court injunctions against the worst offenders.   Signature gatherers counter that Safeway is disrupting their free-speech rights. About two dozen political petition signature gatherers protested the crackdown yesterday outside Safeway's corporate headquarters in Pleasanton,Cailf.  "We want to be community-minded ... but what has happened is that it has become an industry, it has become a business, these are professional people paid to gather signatures and, quite frankly, harass our customers," Safeway spokesperson Susan Houghton said.  In light of the shooting and the need to provide a safe and peaceful environment for shoppers, this seems like a reasonable and necessary action as political issues do incite responses as we have all seen.  (Source

NACDS Praises U.S. Senator Schumer for Introduction of

Bipartisan Legislation to Help Curb Organized Theft of Medical Products

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) today sent a letter to U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) thanking him for his leadership in introducing and advancing S. 1002, the "Strengthening and Focusing Enforcement to Deter Organized Stealing and Enhance Safety Act of 2011," also called the "SAFE DOSES Act."
The letter cites the importance of the bill in the fight against the organized theft of medical products, specifically prescription drugs, biologicals, devices and infant formula. The bipartisan bill aims to provide law enforcement with critical tools to break up sophisticated crime rings that harm consumers by attempting to resell stolen medical products on the black market.

"Your timely legislation comes amid concerns that criminal organizations are increasingly targeting prescription drugs and other medical products, and particularly goods in transit, because of the high value of shipments. It would combat this type of theft by increasing penalties, stiffening sentences for these crimes, making theft of medical products a predicate for the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) law, as well as providing law enforcement officials with additional mechanisms to fight dangerous crime rings," NACDS stated in its letter to the Senator.

"We commend you again for introducing and advancing strong bipartisan legislation that will assist healthcare providers, retailers and law enforcement combat the serious problem of organized theft of medical products and we look forward to working with you to enact this important legislation," the letter concluded. There is as much – if not more – to learn from something that didn't work as something that did.  Virtually every one of those experiences is a life lesson and goes into making you a better leader for tomorrow.  The issue is how you handle it today and how you handle it in an interview is critical and can have a major impact on how you're viewed today and how you're viewed after an interview.  We all have to deal with failure and it's better if you're the source of the information than someone else.  Hiding it, ignoring it, minimizing it, or spinning it almost always leads to negative perceptions, skewed opinions, and more varying interpretations.  It's best to anticipate the concerns and accentuate the positive – both of which are easier said than done.
