Walmart's Mexican expansion delay has international implications. Walmart has slashed its plans for new stores in Mexico by more than 20 per cent as the world’s biggest retailer by sales investigates allegations that it paid bribes for permits to open stores in the country more quickly. Walmart Mexico said that it expected to open 325 to 335 new stores this year, a reduction from plans announced in February to open 410 to 436. Without referring to the bribery allegations, it said: "The revision to the expansion programme is primarily due to additional steps the company is adding to its real estate process that extends the average time required to open a store." 4 Cardinal Sins of Work Communication Everybody knows a communications outlaw. Maybe it's the colleague who sends you three emails in the span of an hour, or the conference call host who lets the conversation ramble. With the variety of communication methods available, it's easy to grow frustrated by annoying associates. But is it possible that your own behavior is bugging someone else?  (Don't become a pest)

Coping with Toxic Co-Workers You know the types: the co-worker who seeps negativity and hostility; the gossip-monger; or the critic, who always nitpicks others' work. So what happens when you have several in one workplace? In some cases, a toxic work environment is a result of a laissez-faire manager who either doesn't see the problem or doesn't see the extent of the problem. Here's how to cope if you find yourself in this situation.  (Four things to do)
Last week's most popular articles --

Stop Working All Those Hours "He's one of my best employees. He always puts in ten-hour days, sometimes much more." Is this how your boss judges you and your colleagues? Probably yes. In a 2010 study, researchers found that managers generally considered their employees who spent more time in the office to be more dedicated, more hardworking, and more responsible.  (What you can do about it)

The Only Management Strategy You'll Ever Need Great leaders may think they need to struggle to motivate, inspire, and lead their employees, but they don't. "In one sentence, what is the key to leading people?" Throwaway question? Absolutely. However, at a recent talk, the author asked this question and got a very incredible, yet very surprising response.  (Best answer ever)

Tip of the Day - Sponsored by Vector Security

It seems like we're always saying "get back to the basics" and "keep it simple" almost on a daily basis. We say it so much, most of us don't even hear it and certainly don't appreciate its absolute truth that it speaks to. In our self-motivating attempts to be great at what we do, oftentimes we run faster and try to do more and lose sight of one basic rule. Success begins with the basics. And it's only when we feel like we've evolved beyond them that we find we've only outsmarted ourselves and at that point we've all got to start over and just get back to the basics.

Just a thought,
Gus Downing
