Wal-Mart Exec's asked their international workers to focus on "integrity" as a core value at a pep rally yesterday. "It's doing the right thing, every single day," Wal-Mart President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Duke told international workers gathered at the University of Arkansas' Barnhill Arena. Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart International, called on employees to guard the company's principles. "If you see something in your business that you don't think is right, you need to say something," McMillon said. "We have to be compliant, we have to follow every rule, every regulation in the country," he said. (Source

pursesU.S. ICE agents seize $400,000 in counterfeit goods in two stores in Birmingham, Ala. HSI special agents served federal search warrants at the stores May 23 and seized counterfeit items of numerous manufacturers, including Louis Vuitton, Coach, Prada, Chanel, Gucci, Nike, Ray Ban, Timberland, Michael Kors, Polo, Tory Burch, True Religion and D&G. A total of 1,395 items were seized with an MSRP of $402,507. An investigation into suspected distribution of counterfeit merchandise by the Purse Party and T-Shirt Heaven began in March. Investigations involving the manufacture and sale of counterfeit goods are coordinated through the HSI-led National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, one of the U.S. government's key weapons in the fight against criminal counterfeiting and piracy. The IPR Center uses the expertise of its 20 member agencies to share information, develop initiatives, and coordinate enforcement actions and conduct investigations related to IP theft. (Source

GPS "ushering a new era for security" for security monitoring companies The growing use of GPS-enabled devices, including PERS, means that monitoring companies must change the way they think and act, Bishop said. While technology allows a central station to pinpoint someone’s location, the situation becomes more complicated when trying to determine the right responder to call. "What we’re looking at here is not only being able to manage that GPS traffic coming in, but ensuring that we’re actually contacting the proper authority that has jurisdiction over that pinpointed location to get the help out there to the people who need it," George De Marco, ESX chairman. Series of suburban robberies target Harris Teeter, $50,000 reward offered. Harris Teeter has offered a reward after 10 of its stores have been robbed since Christmas; this latest is the third in the past week. The men stole money from the front register and forced an employee to lie on the ground. They fired several shots during the robbery, which happened while customers were still shopping inside. None of the customers were injured, but one of the robbers hit a manager in the back of the head. Police have beefed up patrols around the stores, which have also increased security and offered the reward. Investigators are working with their counterparts in other suburban departments and with the FBI to catch the criminals, who remained at large Wednesday night. (source (source

New York State Fighting ORC with New Legislative Package

NY State Senate Consumer Protection Committee passes new ORC legislative package that cracks down on ORC and now will face the Senate floor for final approval. The actual legislative package includes six bills:

S.6956: Defines "Organized Retail Crime", adds to the General Business Law the crime of "theft of retail merchandise with an aggregated value of $1,000", and makes corresponding changes to the Penal Law to define such crime as "grand larceny in the fourth degree".

Relates to jurisdiction and venue for a pattern of criminal offenses, granting jurisdiction to any county when at least one of the crimes constituting a pattern occurs within the county.

Relates to prohibitions and penalties against persons who lead an organized retail theft enterprise by organizing, supervising, financing or managing such criminal activity.

Prohibits criminal practices with an access device and classifies such crime as a class B misdemeanor. This crime would subject individuals to criminal liability for certain actions taken with a fraudulent or counterfeit credit card or other devices that grant the holder access to money, goods, or services.

Prohibits retail sales receipt fraud and Universal Product Code fraud and provides for criminal penalties for such crimes.

Adds a new section to the General Business Law and a subdivision to Penal Law to provide that use of an emergency exit to facilitate a theft from a mercantile establishment is classified as "grand larceny in the fourth degree".

"Organized retail crime rings operate and threaten consumers in every part of this state," said Retail Council of New York State President and CEO James R. Sherin. "Senator Zeldin recognized the danger immediately and responded with a package of bold and important bills that the retail industry wholeheartedly supports." (Source

Colorado Governor signs bill to fight organized retail crime. Specifically, Barker’s measure punishes criminals for triggering fire alarms by adding such actions to the "disorderly conduct statute." The bill also expands the definition of "tools of theft" to include the techniques and methods organized retail criminals employ. (Source

Surprising Secret to Time Management When you draw up to-do lists, set schedules, make appointments, and so forth, chances are you're wasting most of your time. Many time management systems encourage you to waste time. Here's a simple way to spend time more wisely.  (Follow the Pareto Principle)

Get the Dumb Stuff Out of Your Work Have you ever wondered whether your work efforts were really creating value? From what I've seen in organizations, a lot of people have that experience. The problem is that many times they don't do anything about it.  (Are you disconnected?)

The Qualified Job Applicant, Redefined It's become clear that a key way out of our economic malaise is to employ more Americans, especially hard-to-hire Americans. Unfortunately, larger forces seem to be at work impeding a robust job-based recovery. (We have an employment problem)

How to Deal With a Younger Boss According to human resource and career consultants, older workers are reporting to younger bosses more and more these days. A 2010 survey by the jobs website CareerBuilder found that 43% of workers 35 and older said they currently work for a younger boss.  (Do you feel old?)

Tip of the Day - Sponsored by Vector Security

Self-reflection is something many avoid or refuse to allow it to creep up and point to exactly what you need to look at. Hidden behind rationalizations, self reflection in actuality can be an eye opening experience. Popping up when you least expect it but most notably late at night when you're staring at the ceiling with no other outside interferences lending you license to deny it. Self-reflection is the one person you should make it a point to face. It just might make a difference tomorrow.

Just a thought,
