Sony Corp suffered a huge breach in its video game online network that allowed the theft of names, addresses and possibly credit card data belonging to 77 million user accounts in one of the largest Internet security break-ins ever. A Sony spokesman said it took "several days of forensic investigation" after learning of the breach before the company knew consumers' data had been compromised. U.S. Democratic senator Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Sony asking them to explain why they didn't notify PlayStation owners sooner.  (Source:

eBay PROACT Team Assists Retail Investigators Leading to Seizure of Stolen Goods

eBay PRAOCT team worked closely with retail investigators regarding suspected stolen goods ring leads a search warrant and raid at Kentucky based pawn shop and seizure of thousands of dollars of stolen goods. Authorities say it's connected to an organized crime ring stealing merchandise across the Midwest and moved in on the Cash-In Pawn Shop last week, the second Cash-In store to be raided this year alone. Authorities say the stolen merchandise is all part of a very elaborate criminal operation. On the door it says "we don't buy stolen property", but authorities say they did. "Things like teeth whitening and home pregnancy test kits." The merchandise allegedly came from CVS, Walgreens, even clothing from Dick's Sporting Goods. Police say the stolen items were then sold, online. (Click here for article.)

Managing your career upwards requires a vision of where you want to go and how you're going to get there.  Other than personal performance, one of the primary factors is who you know and how you develop those relationships.  Everything you read talks about managing relationships around you in your current role, but the real key is the relationships you have outside your role or your company and not just in the LP community but with successful operators outside your current scope.  If you expect to truly excel in your career, you've got to expand your contacts and develop them as you would the operator beside you.  Obviously, this can be difficult and slow to progress.  But give it some thought for the new year and set some goals of meeting new executives and expanding your circle.  Because one person, one contact, can make a difference and you never know who that might be.

Just a Thought
