Police are trying to identify the man they said was caught on video crawling on his belly trying to dodge motion detectors and stole $30,000 worth of cellphones. Investigators said the man broke into the business next door to the T-Mobile store off Scenic Highway in Snellville and cut three larges holes in the wall. Next, the man grabbed bolt cutters and sliced through a cage with dozens of expensive smart phones. But not before taking care of business on his smartphone, fielding two calls and a text. (source

The Department of Justice seized more than $896,000 in proceeds from the distribution of counterfeit sports apparel and jerseys as the result of an investigation into the sale of counterfeit goods on commercial websites, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division; Ronald C. Machen Jr., U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia; and John Morton, Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 11 Secrets of Hiring Managers  Why do you need to know these secrets? Two reasons. The first is: What you don’t know can hurt your chances of landing a job and commanding a higher salary. 3VR - video surveillance, video intelligence

Being engaged in the business of your retailer is a critical element for every Loss Prevention executive. For decades, our industry has often been accused of being silo'ed and separate from the operators and the merchants. This separateness in many cases ultimately leads to a disconnect, a sense that we aren't part of the team. Which in actuality, regardless of your performance, it can lead to your job being eliminated or just you being replaced with someone new. So the real question is: How do you become engaged in the business and truly add value to the company's success beyond reducing shrink? And then having the courage to go make it happen. We all tend to stay in our comfort zones and remain safe. At least that's what we think. But at the end of the day, it's that comfort zone that can actually increase your risk. So the next time you're in a corporate meeting or traveling stores with your operators or merchants, go beyond with your comments and opinions – take a risk – add some value – help them run the business – you might be surprised.

Just a Thought,
Gus Downing
