AT&T and T-Mobile: Merger brings efficiencies, but will consumers see the benefit?
AT&T has promised to spread some of that windfall around. If regulators OK the deal, the company said that it will build an expansive 4G network that will deliver high-speed access to 95% of Americans. Regulators face a tough choice. There's no denying that T-Mobile would be far more valuable as part of AT&T given the easy cost savings the pair could realize. With two very well-developed LP Departments, how this impacts those teams will be interesting to watch over the next year. Stay tuned and let's hope we don't lose too many LP jobs. (Source:

Dollar General reports 4th Quarter and 2010 year-end results.
The Company's gross profit rate increased 76 basis points to 32.0 percent of sales in 2010 from 31.3 percent of sales in 2009. The gross profit rate was favorably impacted by lower inventory shrinkage and higher net markups on sales resulting from the Company's category management efforts throughout the year and increased volumes which contributed to the ability to reduce purchase costs from vendors.  (Source:

Woman who organized fake bridal show gets 5-1/2 years in prison.

Last year, Tucker posted a webpage advertising a three-day bridal convention, "The Boston 411 Home & Bridal Show 2010" at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, that turned out to be fake.
Investigators estimate that between 100 and 200 wedding-industry vendors paid $350 to $4,000 to operate booths at the show. An estimated 5,000 people, mostly future brides, bought tickets for either $10 to $15 to attend.  (Source:

A career is like a horse race that starts fresh everyday, every week, every inventory period, every management change and every new employer.  Quit frankly, it never stops and you don't want it to actually because, if it does, then you're not in the game and being in the game is what it's all about.  And as in every race, some days you win, some days you show, some days you place and some days you just down right lose.  The bottom line is learning how to lose with dignity and how to win with humility.  But the most important thing is just staying in the game and keeping focused.

Good Luck
Gus Downing
