Borders announces another 28 stores to be closed on top of the 200 initially announced.  Earlier this week, they also announced an additional 70 stores on top of the 200 that had been selected from a list of 140 additional "bubble stores."  So is today's 28 further cuts into the group of "bubble stores"?  (Source kitv.com)

Ross Stores 4Q reports same store sales up 4% with revenue up 8.4%

Marshalls opens its first three Canadian stores in Ontario this week and is boosting its 8,000 pairs of shoes and taking up almost one-third of the space in each store as the compelling reason to shop there.  And so the Canadian push begins.  This company's growth in Canada alone, if they reach their projections, will bring well over 100 new LP jobs to the market.  (Source canoe.ca)

A lawsuit filed this week in California claims Walgreens is unlawfully selling medical information gleaned from patient prescriptions to data mining companies who resell it to pharmaceutical companies for marketing purposes.  The practice allows drugmakers to target physicians considered high-volume prescribers and those most willing to prescribe new medications.  On Monday, the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Health and Welfare Fund filed a class action in Pennsylvania court against CVS Pharmacy for allegedly selling customer's private information to Eli Lilly and Co, Merck, AstraZeneca and Bayer.  While a number of states have already declared that the practice of selling prescription information does not violate medical privacy and confidentiality laws, the focus of the latest suits are now on "unlawful business practices" in that the information belongs to the patient and not the pharmacy and it also blames the practice for driving up medical costs by perpetuating the sales of high-priced brand drugs instead of cheaper generic alternatives.  Should corporate America keep our personal medical history private or be allowed to sell the information, profit from our illnesses, and arm the pharmaceutical companies with more information to increase their sales at our expense.  (Source reuters.com)

International retailer H&M temporarily closes 9 of its 10 Japan stores, all located in the Tokyo region, because employees are concerned about the nuclear crisis.  H&M is taking a "wait and see" stance.  They've also postponed another store planned to open Saturday.  (Source Associated Press)

e-book sales jumped in January and surpassed purchases of hardcovers and mass market paperbacks according to a new survey by The Association of American Publishers.  e-sales more than doubled over last year from $32.4 million in Jan. 2010 to $69.9 million in Jan 2011.  Last year, e-books had 8% to 9% of the total market and is expected to rise to 12% to 15% this year.  (Source Associated Press)

The world's biggest maker of data storage computers and a premier security vendor, EMC Corp said in a filing with the Securities Exchange Commission that RSA, their security division, was a victim of a sophisticated computer attack and that the intruders compromised a widely used technology for preventing computer break-ins.  The incident is a rare public acknowledgement by a security company that its internal anti-hacking technologies have been hacked. It is especially troubling because the technology sold by EMC's security division, RSA, plays an important role in making sure unauthorized people aren't allowed to log into heavily guarded networks.  The potential fallout could be widespread and have "tremendous repercussions" as RSA'a SecurID is used by the military, governments, various banks, medical facilities and health insurance companies.  (Source Associated Press)

The economy may indeed be getting better with manufacturers adding 190,000 jobs over the past year, the highest total since 1998.  Private companies adding 220,000 jobs in February, the most in a year, and unemployment falling to 8.9% an almost full percentage point drop since December -- the steepest three-month decline since 1983.  (Source Associated Press)

Accepting criticism and feedback is probably one of the hardest things to do, especially if it's unexpected or from an individual or group that's not really informed well enough to offer constructive criticism.Coming from our superiors or client's, criticism and feedback can truly be valuable and help mold the path a person needs to take in changing or modifying behavior and improving relationships. It all boils down to whether or not you're willing to accept it and really hear what they're saying or not saying. It's human nature to automatically respond defensively and rationalize what you're hearing, thus avoiding having to own it.However, the wise person learns to listen and force themselves not to respond other than to acknowledge that they heard it.

Good Luck
