The Atlanta street gang 30 Deep, who police say are responsible for an endless run of crime including the smash and grab burglaries at Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, are proving to be more difficult to track and identify than the gangs of yesteryear because they roam far and wide and go wherever the money is and have no clear leadership or hierarchy.  (Source ajc.com)

The U.S. military does not have enough trained personnel or legal authorities to respond to a computer-based attack on America or its allies according to the Pentagon's cyber commander, Gen. Keith Alexander.  The U.S. government has said its networks are probed and attacked millions of times a day, and that cyber criminals, terrorists and other nations are getting more adept at penetrating government and private networks to spy, steal critical data or affect critical infrastructure such as the electrical grid.   The commander told Congress "we are very thin and a crisis would quickly stress our cyber forces and another cybersecurity expert said "we are unprepared to defend ourselves."  (Source Associated Press)

The Thought Challenge:
This week's first Thought Challenge from Libby Libhart was a great article and we'd like to merely point out that everyone can write one about any subject you like.  And you can write it as an industry member and not be associated with a specific retailer.  No matter what level you are at, your thoughts and ideas have value and expressing them is important.  Who knows what impact it could have.  Speaking out is the first step to becoming a true leader.

Asking for advice is a great thing and we all need it from time to time merely because as the old adage goes we're too close to the trees to see the forest.  However, the key is who you ask for it and what are their agendas, because we all have them and even well-intentioned advice can be swayed by an individual's need or desire to accomplish their objectives.  Advice is the easiest thing to give and the hardest thing to practice.  But getting a second opinion is always good.  You've just got to realize that we're all just humans and even the best advice givers and mentors are influenced by their own needs.

Good Luck
