The Black out months of December,
January, and February means very few senior changes in LP throughout
North America Traditionally these are the
three quietest months of the year for any senior LP job changes.
With holiday sales, inventories in January, and 2012 budgets not
plugged in yet most senior jobs will not become active until March
and April with the most activity happening from June to October.
New survey by Private Officer International shows there were 114
"confirmed" security officer "on-duty" deaths in 2011 in the U.S.
as a result of a combination of homicide, accidental, industrial and
"unclassified" incidents. But actual death totals are believed to be
12% - 20% higher and misreported in other worker classifications. With
more than 37,000 assaults against contract and proprietary officers,
loss prevention agents and private police resulting in 13,700
injuries. The deaths were; 54 gunshots, 11 stabbings, 11 suicides
on-duty, 19 trauma/assaults, 10 car accidents, 6 industrial
accidents, 14 unclassified deaths with the average age being 38. (Source

Microsoft has filed suit against a major UK-based retailer, accusing
Comet of "creating and selling" more than 94,000 counterfeit Windows
recovery CDs in 2008 and 2009.
Comet’s defense says it was only
acting in the best interests of its customers, supplying them with
recovery media that wasn’t supplied with the PCs they sold. But the
customers could have obtained a free copy directly from the
manufacturers however Comet decided to sell them at $24 a piece x
94,000. A great profit considering each disc cost below a dollar.
Interesting case that may cause concern for every retailer offering
extra help to their customers. (Source zdnet.com)
Federal Authorities seized over $350,000 of counterfeit NHL
merchandise bogusly branded NHL Winter Classic right outside
Philadelphia's stadium.
Investigators seized more than 1,600 items
in all, including counterfeit MLB, NFL, NBA and NCAA merchandise.
They're really cracking down on all Major League merchandise
nationwide and next time you go to a game watch out where you're
buying your stuff as you could end up involved in a bust. (Source cbssports.com)
34% of iPhone users and 20% of Android users who made purchases
using their phones bought 50% or more of their holiday purchases via

Career Resolutions
Everyone Should Make
When you're not happy at
work, making a New
Year's career resolution
is easy. But when things
are going well, you
should still be setting
work-related goals for
yourself. And what
better time to do it
than the new year?
(How
fresh is your resume?)
Stop
Procrastinating --Now
It seems that no one is
immune to the tendency
to procrastinate. But
putting off tasks takes
a big hit on our
productivity, and
psyche. Procrastination
is not inevitable.
Figuring out why you
postpone work and then
taking concrete steps to
prevent it will help you
get more done and feel
good about yourself.
(Don't
put off these tips)

In preparing for any
interview or meeting, I would suggest that, not only do you
educate yourself about the potential employer, but that you
study their competitor as well, because not only do these
executives know their business, the good ones will know
their competitors business even better. And if you show them
you've taken the time to really learn their business and the
number one thing that impacts them beyond the customer which
is their competitor, then they'll be impressed that you went
to that effort. And at the end of the day you'll learn an
entire channel of trade.
Just a Thought,
Gus Downing
