Glenn Master was named Director of Loss Prevention for Newgistics.  Glenn was most recently with Office Depot in their Supply Chain Loss Prevention department and takes with him a wealth of Supply Chain LP experience and knowledge.

Two Duane Reade employees were approached by thieves this past December through their Facebook accounts asking them "Do you wanna make $300 a week while @ work?  I want you 2 ring me up as I buy gift cards on credit gwap (the street term for illegal credit cards)."  The employees notified LP and the thieves were actually apprehended by an undercover state police investigator in the Duane Reade store actually located in the lobby of the building that houses Queens County District Attorney's Office.  Investigators recovered 18 eBay and PayPal gift cards valued at $3,350 as well as credit/debit cards in the name of Gary Rey, but with different account numbers on the magnetic strips.  In a very short time, Duane Reade has recovered over $250,000 from other credit card fraud and prepaid gift card abuse activity.  Alan Abreu contributed this press release -- thanks Alan. "The Booster Club" comedy series about a shoplifting ring and casted with a former NBA first round draft pick Rashad McCants and a former adult-film actress Traci Lords, is being shopped around Hollywood in hopes of finding a network interested in airing it.  Certainly this may warrant proactive lobbying efforts from our trade associations with the various studios.  (Source yahoo.com)

A&P asks Bankruptcy court for $6.8 million to enact a short-term incentive plan for 146 salaried executives to help retain them given the economic problems they face.  The plan allows 4 senior executives to earn 175% of their base salaries while providing 100% bonuses for other participants.  Retention bonuses are common incentives to offer to retain executives and slow down turnover which can negatively impact any business, especially those in bankruptcy.  (Source supermarketnews.com)

Goatse Security, a group described by the U.S. Attorney's Office as "a loose association of internet hackers," is supporting the two men who are being tried for stealing more than 100,000 email addresses of Apple iPad users by tricking AT&T's website into giving them the e-mail addresses, which included the New York Mayor's, Michael Bloomberg.  The group says they were acting in the public interest by exposing a flaw in AT&T's security system.  (Source Associated Press)

A 26-year-old Belarusian man admits to running an identity theft web site called CallService.biz where his 2,000 identity thieves would call U.S. Banks pretending to be identity theft victims, with in-depth files on the victims, and confirm fraudulent transactions rung up by the criminals.  He actually advertised the services on a so-called carding website, CardingWorld.cc, where stolen credit card information was bought and sold.  He's facing 38 years in a U.S. prison and will be sentenced May 26.  (Source yahoo.com)

How you turn down an offer is as important as how you interview for both leave an impression that will last for a long time and, in a small industry, you’ve got to be sensitive to the lasting impressions you make.  If you're turning down an offer based solely on the dollars, then you should have a reasonable and realistic alternative figure pre-established and never ever turn down a job offer expecting a counteroffer.  The vast majority will accept your decision and move on.  So if it's close, think twice before turning it down and look at the value of the other pieces of the package.  It's a buyer's market in today's economy and the true value of a new job may not be in the package -- it may be in what it brings tomorrow.

Good Luck
Gus Downing
