Source tagging recycling is developing fast in the UK and saving retailers millions; in labor costs, allowing staff to be more visible on the sales floor rather than applying tags in the back room, protecting the merchandise across the entire supply chain, and providing longer life security tags reduces landfill waste.  In one specific case, a fashion retailer predicted savings figures revealed a staggering $34.7 million worth of savings comprising:   £12 ($18.9) million saving on labor costs -- staff not having to tag in store, * £4.2 ($6.63 million) in additional sales from correct and consistent tagging (staff in stores seldom get it right!) , * £1.5 ($2.37) million additional sales from more goods being available, * £2.8 ($4.42) million saved from staff loss as a result of 'back door' theft , * £2.1 ($3.31) million saving through cutting supply chain losses because the hard tag provides a visual deterrent.  And * a dramatic reduction in landfill tax paid on discarded security tags.  A "do it once and do it right success story that has transcended the current economic climate."  (Source theretailbulletin.com)

Target to pay $22.5 million to settle claims in California for improperly disposing of hazardous waste such as pesticides, bleach, and other potentially toxic items.  Prosecutors accused Target of pouring returned or defective merchandise down drains, throwing it into trash bins, and in one case, donating it to a food bank. (Source wtsp.com)

New York Stock Exchange warns Borders that they're stock price did not meet listing requirements of averaging a closing price of $1.00 over a 30-day period and has six months to fix the problem. (Source wincountry.com)

World leaders and security experts meeting at the Munich Security Conference last week discussed the need to develop "rules of engagement for the deployment of cyber-weapons," which was the first time ever cyber-security was on the agenda.  (Source theregister.co.uk)

According to the Weekly Retail Fix from Retailing Today the possible sale of BJ's to private equity buyers may not lead to opening new stores and generally the equity groups "look for ways to enhance the cash generating capabilities of existing operations."  If its sold to a private equity group it's "conceivable there could be further streamlining of the store base."  (Source retailingtoday.com)

Canadian developers, shopping centers, and landlords are starting to gear up for 2012 which is the year most are saying that the U.S. invasion will start to really show itself.  (Source thestar.com)

Costing the U.S. taxpayers $60 billion a year, the government has developed a health-care fraud most-wanted list of 170 fugitives -- http://www.oig.hhs.gov -- and topping the list are Miami brothers Carlos, Luis, and Jose Benitez for scamming Medicare out of $119 million.  (Source Associated Press)

New survey by Harris Interactive aimed at quantifying the appeal of several options available to unemployed workers showed that pursuing a temp job (defined as a transitional job held while looking for permanent employment) is preferred by a wide margin to going back to school to learn a new skill or profession (21%), waiting for the right opportunity while receiving unemployment assistance (11%), starting a new business (5%), or something else (8%).  With the majority (70%) saying that landing a temp job often leads to a permanent job and it adds value to a resume.  Certainly, this makes sense and there's a number of LP outsourcing firms that do in fact hire temp LP execs.   (Source PRNewswire.com)

eBay Global Technical Investigations Support Romanian Law Enforcement

eBay Global Information Security technical investigators work very closely with Romania law enforcement, including assigning a "man on the ground" in Bucharest, supporting criminal cybercrime investigations that lead to hundreds of arrests and extensive intelligent gathering over the past couple of years. Among law enforcement officials around the world, the city of Ramnicu Valcea has a nickname: Hackerville. It's something of a misnomer; the town is indeed full of online crooks, but only a small percentage of them are actual hackers. Most specialize in ecommerce scams and malware attacks on businesses. According to authorities, these schemes have brought tens of millions of dollars into the area over the past decade, fueling the development of new apartment buildings, nightclubs, and shopping centers. Râmnicu Vâlcea is a town whose business is cybercrime, and business is booming. No one really knows how or why those kids started scamming people on the Internet. "If you find out, you let us know," says Codruţ Olaru, head of Romania's Directorate for Investigation on Organized Crime and Terrorism. Cybercafés offered cheap Internet access, and crooks got busy posting fake ads to lure victims into remitting payments by wire transfer. Eventually, FBI agents in the US and Bucharest started to get interested. "There's a high concentration of people offering the kinds of services you need to build a criminal scheme," says Gary Dickson, an FBI agent who worked in Bucharest from 2005 to 2010.  "If your specialty is auction frauds, you can find a money pick-up guy. If you're a money pick-up guy, you can find a buyer for your services. Click here for full article.

Mr. Goldwyn, one of the original founders of MGM Studios, was a private man and never allowed any personal interviews until on his death bed when he allowed one journalist to come in.  The journalist merely asked what made him so successful to which he responded, "I simply won more than I lost.It is through this answer that we all see ourselves traveling through our careers agonizing over our losses and cheering with our victories.  Our losses can be defining moments if we allow ourselves to admit and learn from them, for it is the person that doesn't see them that is destined to repeat them.
