Apple stores hit by identify theft ring of 27 people nationwide with thousands of stolen credit cards and "roughly $1 million in merchandise."  (Source Associated Press)

With same store sales down 37.3% over the last 3 years, Borders "may file for bankruptcy later this month" and close 150 stores.  (Source wincountry.com)

The new Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010, the first major reform since 1938, will take more than 3 years to fully develop with over a dozen rulemakings and at least 10 guidance documents that need to be written.  While some provisions take effect immediately, coupled with the final rules, it will have a significant impact on everyone's operations.   This "sea of change for the food safety in America" will bring a new focus of prevention and will have a dramatic and positive effect, but it doesn't cover meat, poultry and egg products.  With 48 million Americans falling ill each year from foodborne illnesses, 180,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths, it was long overdue.  The Food Marketing Institute's Senior Vice President and head of its new Center of Excellence For Food Safety and Protection, Jill Hollingsworth, is working closely with the FDA during this rulemaking process and believes "the FDA has shown a willingness to listen to and collaborate with the food industry."  For more information and to possibly get involved, we would suggest contacting either Jill or Rhett Asher at the FMI at rasher@fmi.org  or jhollingsworth@fmi.org.  (Source supermarketnews.com)

Safeway's wellness program for its employees has been extremely successful and has kept costs at the same level as they were 5 years ago which is 33% lower than the national average.  They reversed national trends of obesity, smoking and high blood pressure to such an extent that last year they rolled out a new company called "Safeway Healthy" that helps other employers achieve similar success.  (Source supermarketnews.com)

San Diego repeals its ordinance over big boxes and opens the door for 12 Wal-Mart Superstores.  (Source whas11.com)

The Point of Sale space hasn't changed much over the last 20 years, but the cloud may change it entirely and through a Software as a Service (Saas) model all the till information could be stored in globally secure data centers and accessible by the right people in real time.  Most retailers fear that the security of the data could be jeopardized, but some are claiming it won't be.  This will be interesting to watch.  (Source theretailbulletin.com)

With 4.3 billion IP addresses, the internet will run out of new numbers to assign in about six to nine months according to the American Registry for Internet Numbers.  The problem is they have to roll out a new system with a different language that only 2% of the current websites support and the new system has not been tested on a large scale.  This could lead to problems reaching some websites and slow surfing.  But they expect it to be invisible to the consumer.  (Source Associated Press)

eBay Collaborates with Investigation into Forged Signature Football Shirts

eBay Asset Protection actively worked with UK Trading Standards officers to identify platform user, both eBay & PayPal related to the unlawful sale of forged English style football shirts leads to arrest and conviction for couple. The investigation also included working closely with the shirt original manufacturer, Umbro, European Football Association along with the execution of a number of controlled purchases of alleged forged shirts. The suspects, boyfriend & girlfriend, duped around 750 customers into paying up to 40 for the shirts which came with a fake certificate of authenticity -- pocketing the couple over 14,400. Judge Martin Walsh told the pair it was "quite a sophisticated internet fraud" involving the selling of fraudulent items to unsuspecting members of the public. The Judge said it was "pretty obvious" the majority of the shirts sold by the pair were fraudulent in a scam that lasted for around 18 months and involved many transactions. Knowing the basic interview questions is one thing. Having the answers is another. What's more important is communicating openly and honestly in a professional manner that shows thought, vision and your business knowledge. Try to apply your background to the interviewers business and how you can impact it and add value. The key to a successful interview is bridging the gap between your background and the prospective employer's company and needs. Preparation-preparation-preparation!

Good Luck
