The Supermarket News ran a great article on how eBay and the NRF have teamed up together with the fight on ORC and goes into great detail on the progression of eBay's efforts since Paul Jones, Global Assets Protection Director, has taken the lead there since his joining eBay.  With their PROACT team and retail members growing, eBay has gone the extra mile and this article is proof.  (Source supermarketnews.com)

ORC Gang arrested in Macon, Georgia, with $12,000 of The Home Depot and Lowes merchandise in their car.  The gang is reportedly part of a "massive shoplifting ring" operating out of Miami and has reportedly taken over $80,000 from The Home Depot stores alone.  (

Authorities have identified a Salt Lake City man, 31-year-old Anthony A. Martinez, as the person who ran from deputies before opening fire in a Walmart parking lot in Port Orchard, Washington, sparking a shootout that killed him and a young woman and wounded two deputies this past Sunday.  (

Health care fraud may not be as bad as retail fraud, but the government did recover over $4 billion last year from pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, doctors, nursing homes and other care providers who defrauded federal health care programs.  (

As Google's new CEO rearranges his management team, here's one exec's comments about how when a new CEO comes on board they always bring in their own top execs. "If you [as a CEO] don't surround yourself with the people that you trust and that you know what you're going to get from them, you don't know whether you're going to win or fail," this fired exec says.  "I've worked under other CEOs who either dragged out the process or never attempted to do this and ultimately failed."  Over the years, we've all seen how this has impacted senior LP execs as the CFOs or other senior execs who LP reports to have changed due to a new CEO or new ownership.  And this year with the increased private equity groups buying into retail, we'll absolutely see management changes and certainly the CFOs.  How many LP execs will be impacted is anybody's guess.  But there will be a few.  (

Near-field communication chips (NFC), which (still) Google CEO Eric Schmidt said have the potential to eliminate credit cards, will be in all the mobiles soon.  This is a game changer for everyone.  (

Fort Lauderdale, FL, security guard part of an "
extremely organized ring of crooks" who are running a national identity theft ring with crews burglarizing homes and mailing the stolen credit cards and other ID back to Fort Lauderdale.  Might be worth looking into the names they've acquired.  (

"The food and beverage industry is the most breached industry from an information security perspective, making up more than half of all industry data breaches in 2010, according to the Trustwave 2011 Global Security Report."  (

Database security firm Imperva issues a warning that cybercrooks are selling hacked domains in an underground marketplace for as little as $55 to $499 each.  These sites range from government sites, educations sites, defense sites in the U.S. and Europe.  Might be worth keeping an eye out for yours.  (Source theregister.co.uk)

Apple's iTunes users may wake up one morning, as one customer did, and find their account has been used by fraudsters making gift purchases.  This user said
"It is completely unacceptable that Apple has turned iTunes into some type of pseudo-PayPal without the security measures, monitoring and care being taken to run something so important."  And they reacted one day after his contact and closed his account.  (

UK Financial Services Authority (a UK federal agency) fined a retailer, JJB Sports, over $600k for not disclosing the real cost of buying two other retailers back in 07' and 08', to the tune of over $28 million, which obviously helped their stock price and in essence defrauded the investors.  The management team has since changed and JJB current management has been cooperative with the investigation which appears to be the only reason they aren't proceeding with prosecutions.  Let's see how far the FSA takes this investigation.  (

eBay Investigation Leads to Federal Jail Sentence of Former College Professor

eBay Asset Protection investigators supported a lengthy law enforcement agency inquiry and repeated requests for user data information that led to a federal jail sentence for former Pittsburgh, PA professor. The former adjunct professor, who is serving a federal prison sentence for using online auction sites to scam people out of collectibles and cash has been sentenced to up to 23 months on identity theft and other charges. He was sentenced before Senior Judge Conrad Capuzzi in accordance with a plea bargain in four cases. Last year, the subject was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 18 months imprisonment on charges of mail fraud and fictitious obligations. The charges stem from two federal cases in which he used online auction sites to purchase items with counterfeit checks and to scam $38,037 from bidders nationwide who thought they were buying coins and collectibles. In one of the federal cases, Joy set up internet accounts to bilk people out of $38,036.76. Click here for full article.

A career spans over 30 years and while it seems to start out slow, inevitably it goes by like a speeding bullet.  Therefore, the objective has to be to have a plan and think about your career as an investment with the strategy being to maximize your investment and manage your plan proactively.  Everyone agrees that education is the #1 vehicle and performance is the fuel that provides the distance.  But regardless of how far you go, the real importance is what you do, how you did it and how many you helped!

Good Luck
