The U.S. Department of Commerce will soon be the "new sheriff in town" when the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace establishes internet IDs. "It will be the first time any government has sought to provide a single form of digital identification for internet users, coded to provide a form of filtered identity information, giving out only as much information as needed depending on the type of online transaction.  Websites that use the strategy to authenticate identity would carry a small icon on their pages, similar to retail and banking sites which announce they use encryption software to safeguard transmitted information."  It will put the brakes on cyber crimes and the stakes are huge!   Is your organization involved? Starbucks Starts Accepting Mobile Payments Nationwide with PayPal Option

PayPal, Starbucks and I-phone partnership announced allowing usage of mobile technology to complete purchases at Starbucks. Starbucks Card Mobile lets users add their Starbucks Cards, track rewards and reload cards as needed via PayPal. To pay with their phone, app users simply select "touch to pay" and hold up the barcode on their mobile device screen to the 2-D scanner at the register. Nearly 6,800 company-operated Starbucks stores in the U.S. will begin accepting mobile payments. Customers using the Starbucks Card Mobile app on their iPhone, iPod touch or BlackBerry will now be able to use those devices as tender. PayPal created an empire for itself by making it easy for consumers to send money online to friends and merchants. "We are already the leader in mobile payments," says Laura Chambers, senior director of PayPal Mobile. "We're going to continue to innovate, and we're getting very aggressive about mobile payments in the next two years." Click here for full article.

Interacting in large networking groups can be very challenging even for the most seasoned of executives.  The speed, the number of people, and the amount of information shared can be overwhelming.  However, the one basic principal you can rely on is keep it simple, one person at a time and focus on that person both mentally and visually.  Slow it down in your head and make sure you communicate clearly and sincerely regardless of the background you have with anyone or any group.  Because at the end of the day you're all part of the same industry, the same community, and everyone has the same objective; to help develop and represent the industry as professionals.

Good Luck

Gus Downing
