eBay Asset Protection Assist Law Enforcement Locate Missing Man

eBay PROACT Asset Protection investigators assisted law enforcement with tracking a missing man's whereabouts by tracking his movements, across a number of states, from monitoring ATM withdrawals. The man, who suffers from a rare form of memory lapse left his family's Lakeside home on Dec. 13 with only the clothes on his back. He left a note saying he was heading to a job interview and his family hadn't heard from him since. According to Duluth police, he walked into the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, but was not able to tell hospital staff who he was. The University of Oklahoma Police Department was contacted by the hospital staff. A very happy ending! Click here for full article.

Another opinion from a trusted reader about our Friday Tip

"Doing the Best With What You've Got"...

... is, in my opinion, merely another way of saying; be prepared with an excuse for nonperformance. Now let me rant!

Let's use the following example. I have an external theft issue. It is impacting my shrink significantly. I don't have loss prevention in the store. I don't have EAS. So, what do I do. Well, I could "do the best with what I've got," or I could put together a solid strategy that will have a significant impact on the problem. Doing the best with what you've got will get you the absolute minimum.

We're paid to make lemonade from lemons. I'm thrown lemons every day. I have many people with the "wish I had" mentality. Wishing for things doesn't impact change. I can't imagine this organization saying, "Hey, I know you're down some people, so just do the best you can with what you've got," or "I know you don't have the equipment you want so do the best with what you've got." Rather, I believe they expect (and I expect) excellence in performance, each day, each month, each year. We are only as good as yesterday's results!

My saying goes to our organizational beliefs "pleased but never satisfied." We expect excellence in performance each and every day regardless of what we're faced with. That's what you're paid to do.

We strategize, we prepare, we plan and we execute flawlessly with what we have, not with what we wish we had. We reinvent ourselves every day, not with what we wish we had, with what is in front of us. We have no choice but to adapt as every day brings new challenges. We can't wish today was like yesterday. We make ourselves relevant in a different way, every day. Becoming irrelevant spells disaster. I have exactly what I need because when I don't, I put together a compelling reason to get it.

We expect nothing short of excellence. Is there any other choice?

Here's a new mantra for you; Stop complaining about what you don't have, put a compelling plan together that gets you what you do need, and strive for nothing short of excellence.

Thanks for the response and we'll just keep everyone guessing who wrote it.  But it is a VP of LP and it's a great response.
