U.S. Department of Justice shows 12 million Americans were victims of identity theft between January 2006 and June 2008 that resulted in a $17.3 billion financial cost where the average victim loss was $1,100 to $8,100 with only 17% reporting it to a law enforcement agency.  For 40% of the victims, it only took 1 day to resolve the problem which may be why some people are "desensitized to the seriousness of identity theft."  With this high level of non-reporting, the legislators may not be pressured enough to make broad scale changes as what may be needed.  Most predict the problem will continue to grow.  (Source standardspeaker.com)

Honda alerts 2.2 million U.S. customers of their data breach late last week where hackers compromised their database containing login names, e-mail addresses and the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number.  This could lead to all sorts of scams.  (Source zdnetasia.com)

Borders stock drops 22% Friday because they warned there could be a "liquidity shortfall" and a severe cash crunch in early 2011 which would cause them to not be able to pay some vendors.  The problems continue to pile up in this industry with some suggesting that Borders and Barnes & Noble should join forces in order to survive.  (Source marketwatch.com)

Dollar General to hire 6,000 new jobs to staff their 625 new stores this year.  With 9,200 stores now and 88,000 staffers, this company is still riding high on the redefined consumer.  Their new ORC effort will be interesting to watch this year.  (Source msn.com)

United Supermarkets eliminated their Director of Loss Prevention position last week regretfully.  We expect to see more of this in the grocery industry this spring with the industry's financial conditions.

It also appears that the Wal-Mart grocery price war may be at an end in North America.

Craigslist ad leads to robbery after making the buyers drive to three different locations and finally to an apartment building where they were robbed.  Certainly common sense was missing here.  (Source pennlive.com)

eBay Investigators Assist Federal Investigators into Employee Theft

eBay & PayPal Asset Protection investigators supported federal law enforcement efforts related to the theft and sale of computer equipment valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dustin J. Landry, 30, faces one count of mail fraud in the theft of "approximately 70 laptop computers, 28 'tablet' style portable computers and 38 hard drives" from MMR Group Inc. of Baton Rouge, the charge says. The suspect pocketed nearly $200,000 by selling 136 pieces of his employer's computer equipment on eBay, the U.S. Attorney's Office charged Tuesday. Landry's attorney, Joseph E. Blackwell, said his client has agreed to plead guilty. Landry is described in the charge as a former information-technology specialist at MMR, where his "duties included ordering computers and computer equipment and providing IT services to MMR's employees." Landry "is actually a good kid who messed up," said his attorney. "He has expressed remorse, and he has agreed to plead guilty." Blackwell added Landry immediately cooperated with investigators after the thefts were discovered. Click here for full article.

Ken Blanchard doesn't believe in the expression "give it 150%."  He believes that all human effort should be focused on making sure you give it 100% all the time, consistently and thoroughly.  He believes that it's hard enough to deliver 100% much less to expect 150% out of anyone.  While I agree, I do think that at times one can deliver 150% with the extra 50% being all passion.  Passion is something money can't buy and it's the most powerful ingredient of all as long as you reach 100% most of the time.  A feat very few can reach every day.

Just my opinion
