Prince William County, Va. ORC ring of three men for New York apprehended last Saturday after a police sting which netted a $58,000 recovery of cologne, perfume, clothing, 50 stole identification cards, and a trunk load of iPhones.  (Source wtopnews.com)

Two men New York men arrested in True Religion store at Philadelphia Premium Outlets with false identities and hundreds of bank account numbers, social security numbers and other personal information while trying to make purchases.  (Source montgomerynews.com)

Colorado Springs Police bust major identity theft crime ring of 11 passing counterfeit bills and checks at more than 60 local businesses and retailers.  (Source coloradoconnection.com)

New survey by Kindsight, a developer of online ID theft protection services, shows out of 200,000 in North America, 30% of home computer networks have been infected and are at serious risk of online identity theft, cybercrime and other threats.  (Source yahoo.com)

New survey by PwC of 1,062 senior retail and consumer industry executives shows that, while 53% realize the increased risk environment which has elevated the role and importance of the information security function, information security investments have been restrained due to the economy.  51% plan on increasing security spending over the next 12 months and 46% have purchased insurance that protects against theft or misuse of assets,  including electronic data or customer records.  (Source supermarketnews.com)

Pier 1 3Q reports same store sales up 10.2 with revenue up 8.2% which is the fifth straight month of sales increases.
Rite Aid 3Q reports same store sales down 1.3% and revenue down 2% and loss of $81.5 million  (Source Associated Press)

34% of total holiday sales happened last year in the last 10 days leading up to Christmas according to ShopperTrak and projections for holiday spending are starting to approach pre-recession levels.  Stores have higher inventory levels then last year and it seems the weather is cooperating.  Let's hope for a strong 10-day spree.  (Source Associated Press)

Ground breaking ruling on email privacy
- Federal Court rules citizens have a reasonable expectation of privacy with emails just like with telephones and traditional mail and the opinion is the strongest yet in protecting digital communications against unreasonable search and seizure.  A three-judge panel ruled that obtaining e-mails without warrants violates a persons constitutional rights.  (Source Associated Press)

The Consumer Product Safety Commission bans the manufacture, sale, and resale of cribs which have a slide down rail that moves up and down after 30 infant and toddler deaths in the past decade and millions of recalls.  (Source Associated Press)

Yesterday, Congress passed a new law stopping scammers from using fake caller ID's to trick people into revealing their personal information.  Phone "spoofing" where scammers use the caller ID of, for example, a bank or a government office to deceive and defraud people has been widely used by identity theft rings and in some cases have netted millions.  (Source Associated Press)

Passion is probably the one trait all employers look for in every search and in every candidate.  It's also the one ingredient that's hard to manufacture and almost impossible to fake.  Certainly, energy level has a lot to do with it and virtually everyone can pick it up a notch when they need to.  But passion is something that's deep and something money can't buy and quite frankly it's worth it's weight in gold because passion motivates people and it's what separates the good from the great.  If you've got passion, let it show and, if you don't, try to go find it because every employer wants it.
