The newly formed WLPC (Wireless Loss Prevention Council) recently gathered in Salt Lake City, UT for the 2010 Fall Symposium. The meeting was attended by over 25 senior leaders from all of the major retail wireless carriers to include Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, Metro PCS, Cricket, Best Buy Wireless, and Radio Shack. The meeting was graciously hosted by Paul Jones and the eBay PROACT team and consisted of two days of industry specific discussions and presentations pertaining to investigative methods and loss prevention solutions.  For more information regarding the WLPC, please visit us at www.WLPC.info or contact Kevin Trimble, CFE at Kevin.Trimble@T-Mobile.com or Michael Currier at Michael.Currier@VerizonWireless.com.

Estimates for 30 chains same store sales for Sept. gained 2.3% according to Retail Metrics, with Abercrombie & Fitch leading the apparel group with 13% September same-store sales increases and Limited Brands at 12%.  Target, Gap, and BJ Wholesale fell short of analysts' estimates.  But the overriding feeling is that back-to-school has a pretty strong correlation to the holiday season.   But have any of the old models proved applicable in the past two years?  (Source chainstoreage.com)

The GAP blunders its new silent logo rollout according to every expert out there and Wednesday, a "spokeswoman" for the GAP says, "We love our version, but we'd like to ...see other ideas," telling fans on Facebook.   Tony Spaeth, president of Identityworks, a consulting firm in N.Y. says leaving the fate of the company's logo at least partially to submissions from fans is bizarre and says he thinks this is just them saying "Whoops, we made a mistake here, and how can we recover?"  (Source click2houston.com)

While companies have become more productive by doing more with fewer workers by asking staffers to take on a broader array of duties -- duties that used to be spread among multiple jobs -- the unemployed are finding it harder to qualify for jobs in their old fields because they don't fit the new requirements.  Interesting reading and how applicable is this to the LP field and how will it continue to evolve and impact the profile of tomorrow's successful LP executive?  (Source Associated Press)

eBay Partners with Law Enforcement on Arrest of Paramedic Accused of Selling Stolen Medical Equipment
eBay asset protection fraud investigators assisted law enforcement with completing an investigation into stolen medical equipment. The Pennsylvania State Police arrested veteran paramedic Juan Torres on multiple counts of felony theft. Torres is charged with stealing multiple state of the art portable ultrasound machines and selling them, specifically the Sonosite Titan Ultrasound machines.  "It looks like he sold up to, possibly, 15 ultrasound machines and the one in our case was valued at about $35,000," State Trooper John Sunderlin said. The criminal complaint says that gave Torres access to Doylestown Hospital's emergency room where two Sonosite ultrasound machines were stolen last spring. Torres faces felony charges that include theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities and related offenses. "Who would think someone would violate the trust of their job transporting sick and injured people to they hospital to steal expensive equipment for their own gain?" said Doylestown Township Police Chief Stephen J. White.  Click here for full article.

Sometimes when you're moving so fast and dealing with the mistakes of the day, the frustration levels peak and one can tend to forget that sometimes you've just got to stop, listen and take a breath and maybe talk to a friend about it all.  If it's a good friend, they'll bring you back into focus and make sure you don't react too aggressively and make the mistakes even worst.  There aren't many friends like that nor ones that you can absolutely trust.  But if you've got a couple, make sure you thank them as well for taking the time.

Just a thought
