Hundreds of Retail, Law Enforcement Attend ORCAID's 4th Annual Conference

ORCAID's 4th Annual Conference was a resounding success. The event hosted hundreds of attendees, with food and beverage donated from local retailers, and the presenters covered a range of topics. The money raised at the event will help fund the organization and provide support for future training. This conference helped work towards the organization's mission of combating Organized Retail Crime.

The conference started with an introduction by ORCAID Chairman, Ed Fritz, from the Boise Police Department. An ORCAID training scholarship was awarded to Chantal McMillen from Albertsons, and Officer Ryan Thueson, from the Boise Police Department.

A training session on REID Interviewing Techniques was presented by Joseph P. Buckley of John E. Reid and Associates. Ruben Banuelos, Senior Organized Retail Crime Investigator for Home Depot, and Adam Schloegel, Organized Retail Crime Investigator for the Boise Police Department, presented a case study on organized retail criminals that were apprehended in Boise but had impacted the majority of the United States.

ORCAID Chairman, Ed Fritz, presented ORCAID’s first annual Law Enforcement and Retail Partner of the Year awards. Sergeant Jeff Edwards, from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Department, was awarded the Law Enforcement Partner of the Year. Jonathan Edwardson, Target Assets Protection, was awarded the Retail Partner of the Year.

Sergeant Adam Nielsen of the Boise Police Department presented on Verbal Influence and Defense. The conference ended with an overview of fraud cases and trends in 2018 by Detective Marlon McCowan, of the Eagle Police Department.
